I’ve been too busy keeping tabs and researching the Chat Control proposal getting axed, but I’m tickling to weigh in on the supposed Barron Trump Solana meme coin

On a panel today, EU Commission VP Věra Jourová admits that proposed CSAM scanning / #ChatControl rule clarifies "that even encrypted messaging can be broken for sake of better protection of children" Previously, EU officials stated no one would be forced to break encryption.

Pirate Party MEP @Patrick Breyer deserves mountains of praise for remaining persistent, principled, and hyper-focused communicating the serious flaws with EU Commission’s CSAM screening / upload moderation / #ChatControl regulation. Via his website, he kept detailed notes, explainers, and guides to walkthrough how detrimental this proposed regulation would be to privacy and individual freedom, as well as the future of encryption. EU lawmaking is a labyrinth, and his warnings alongside every part of this process has better informed and equipped Europeans to fight against chat control. Now, Herr Breyer, get yourself a lightning address so folks on nostr can zap you sats over this mastodon bridge.

We should be BULLISH on open source AI. All users can benefit, and yet more projects spring out from models we can all compile and run in my essay on EU Tech Loop, I analyze why it's being thwarted by EU anti-tech activists, complacent EU leadership, and an ideological FTC working in cahoots with Brussels

A competing consumer organization in DC is massively FUDing Tether right now. They paid serious dough for a Times Square virtual billboard calling it a “corrupt” coin for American enemies and criminals. I don’t share these thoughts at all. First, we know how hard Tether has pivoted to implement chain analysis and KYC/AML. Second, every claim made against Tether could also be made against Bitcoin. image

🔺In seeking to undo the EU's proposed breaking of end-to-end encrypted services, we should reimagine how democratic societies can effectively prevent and prosecute crime without resorting to mass surveillance. *NO*TO*CHAT*CONTROL* New piece up at the Consumer Choice Center:

He may say the right things on your favorite orange coin, but ultimately, Trump just wants your money (and I guess Solana?) to fund the lawyers. image

NYT’s “scary” play-by-play of Bitcoin + crypto industry folks supporting Trump over Biden. They try to create a parallel to FTX…without reminding their readers of the paper’s obvious deification of SBF + his EA ventures, plus FTX’s coziness with SEC… I wrote about the obvious FTX shenanigans in Sept. 2022 btw But the only way this was blown wide open wasn’t because of the SEC, the FTC, or Congress (who SBF spent a lot of money to influence) — it was the intrepid investigative journalism done by CoinDesk. Even when that was clear, the SEC and DOJ dragged their feet and refused to do anything. NYT still praised him as long as he was pushing the Effective Altruism cult image

CHAT CONTROL: Police agencies in Europe have the means at their disposal to crack down on illegal content and behavior, and they should be empowered to do so. However, that cannot come at the expense of our own privacy, and our ability to seek out privacy-enhancing technologies that have become vital to our way of life, our relationships and commerce, and how we safeguard our individual rights.

I’ve seen many @jack mallers speeches, but this one at @BTC Prague is pretty exceptional. A deep dive examination of proof of work, praise to the genius of @npub1qg8j...24kw's hashcash algo, and a novel linguistic construction for hardening Bitcoin’s rare qualities. In the world of limitless digital and virtual data, POW makes Bitcoin one of the only true, real things in cyberspace

I was quoted in this article on Ripple’s political lobbying in DC. The editors cut out my part about XRP’s illogical and immoral funding campaign for Greenpeace’s attacks on Bitcoin mining, but I at least got to mention that they’re trying to sway regulators to protect their bags and pump their token without any promise of innovation.
