$MSTR price chart looks absolutely crazy, until you realize what Michael Saylor is doing, and then it makes perfect sense. But then you think "why is no one else doing this?", and suddenly the rabbit hole gets really really deep. Absolutely incredible. Haven't seen anything like it. For better or worse, I don't own it, just fascinated by it image
I love the nostr project, run my own relay, try to publish actively here and zap folks all the time, but it has to be said that the network effect and signal one gets on Twitter/X is currently unmatched. Whether it is tech reviews, financial analysis, Bitcoin news, high quality independent media, there is really high quality content on X (if you follow the right people) I'd love to have a script that when I like/repost something on X, it would automatically be transformed into a nostr note. Is this possible? We need to bring more signal into Nostr Of course nostr has many other applications, not just social media protocol, but it is currently the most developed one
Fascinated by this inspiring 2014 documentary about the early years of Bitcoin. So many interesting things, from speculation on the origin of Satoshi, to the first Bitcoin businesses, to the creep of state regulations and restrictions of freedom. I was very motivated to share it on Nostr, but the video is 500 MB so it would require a subscription to a storage server like nostr.build. I might do it later, but in the meantime you can access it directly from my relay storage over Tor https://jnnczevt7ng5jkdyc4ntvydz3gdpuieagq6ncyqvrhh76pqthgtrx6id.onion/s/YkXjmaAb6NBkQG7
Highly recommend @Fountain for podcasts. I used Google podcasts for years but they closed it down July 2024. Sometimes a setback is just an opportunity to discover something better. A very cute feature is that you can see all the podcasts you supported in order. Here is my own list after ~3 months, happy to have lost tens of thousands of Satoshis listening to these great individuals. It works for listening to music as well! And also now Fountain added Nostr so you can see music and podcasts your follows are interacting with. Feels like the beginning of true change.
Never have I been more embarrassed of what has become of our European Union. We don't need them, not like this at least. Censoring the Internet will always be on the wrong side of history. Stop this madness before it stops you image
Any Italians here on Nostr care to comment on these housing statistics in Italy? Very interesting ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น image
Tesla reported earnings yesterday, continues to completely crush it as a business, will soon become the largest company in the world, and for good reason. Massive net benefit for consumers, environment and technological progress on earth. I continue saying that despite his flaws, if more billionaires were like Elon we'd be much better off. Meanwhile, if you want a complete deep dive on Teslas financials, see the post below.
Solar energy discussion! Someone claimed the following quote for the UK: "ยฃ10k install quote for a 7kW PV system with a 10kWh battery (2x5) as well as micro inverters." This is an unbelievably cheap quote, but someone pointed out in the comments that even then, such a system in the UK will have more than 20 years of payback time, and will barely outperform a 5% fixed income investment instrument. My analysis: That's mostly due to how little sun they have in the UK. In the southwest US, such a system would pay itself back in ~10 years, and there could be additional savings from battery grid management operations. A good video describing the absolute trainwreck that Germany has become in the last decades. Poor Internet and train infrastructure are the main complaints here. But that barely covers 10% of the problem. Add on top of it a huge government bloat, with useless agencies and bullshit jobs, excessive regulations and a truly nightmarish taxation regime. And I say this as a foreigner living in Germany who hopes that it recovers it's engineering and innovating ways
What has Javier Milei accomplished in Argentina? Here's a good analysis video, both praising his good policies but also critical of some of his approaches. "He's doing good so far, but we have to keep an eye on him". Highly recommend it
"(...)the only way in which we can have any law at all is to have as little of it as possible. I see no ethical standard to which to measure the whole unethical conception of a State, except in the amount of time, of thought, of money, of effort and of obedience, which a society extorts from its every member. Its value and its civilization are in inverse ratio to that extortion. There is no conceivable law by which a man can be forced to work on any terms except those he chooses to set. There is no conceivable law to prevent him from setting them--just as there is none to force his employer to accept them. The freedom to agree or disagree is the foundation of our kind of society--and the freedom to strike is a part of it." Ayn Rand, in "The Fountainhead" (1943)
