Incubus (Esperanto: Inkubo) (1966) Director: Leslie Stevens image On a strange island inhabited by demons and spirits, a man battles the forces of evil. Incubus (Esperanto: Inkubo) is a 1966 American horror film directed by Leslie Stevens. It was filmed entirely in the constructed language Esperanto, shortly before its star, William Shatner, began his work on Star Trek. Incubus was the second feature film to use Esperanto, following the 1964 film Angoroj. The use of Esperanto was intended to create an eerie, otherworldly feeling, and Stevens prohibited dubbing the film into other languages; however, on the Special Features section of the DVD the makers claim that Esperanto was used because of perceived greater international sales. Esperanto speakers are generally disappointed by the pronunciation of the language by the cast of Incubus. The film was considered to be lost for many years, until a copy with French subtitles was found at Cinémathèque Française in 1996. #horror #cult #kinostr #kino #movies #films #filmstr #60s #31daysofhorror #nostober #spooktober

Vampyr (1932) Director: Carl Theodor Dreyer image With Vampyr, Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dreyer channeled his genius for creating mesmerizing atmosphere and austere, unsettling imagery into the horror genre. The result—a chilling film about a student of the occult who encounters supernatural haunts and local evildoers in a village outside of Paris—is nearly unclassifiable. A host of stunning camera and editing tricks and densely layered sounds create a mood of dreamlike terror. With its roiling fogs, ominous scythes, and foreboding echoes, Vampyr is one of cinema’s great nightmares. #horror #fantasy #kinostr #fullmovies #kino #films #movies #filmstr #31daysofhorror #nostober #spooktober #classic #cinema

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) Director: Robert Wiene image The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (German: Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) is a 1920 German silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema, it tells the story of an insane hypnotist (Werner Krauss) who uses a brainwashed somnambulist (Conrad Veidt) to commit murders. The film features a dark, twisted visual style, with sharp-pointed forms, oblique, curving lines, structures and landscapes that lean and twist in unusual angles, and shadows and streaks of light painted directly onto the sets. #horror #silent #thriller #mystery #thrillers #kinostr #movies #kino #classic #cinema #films #filmstr #german #fullmovies #spooktober #nostober #31daysofhorror

Nightbreed (1990) - The Complete Cabal Cut / Uncut/ 199 mins Director: Clive Barker image Nightbreed is a 1990 American dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, based on his 1988 novella Cabal. It stars Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, David Cronenberg, Charles Haid, Hugh Quarshie, and Doug Bradley. The film follows an unstable mental patient named Aaron Boone who is falsely led to believe by his doctor that he is a serial killer. Tracked down by the police, his doctor, and his girlfriend Lori, Boone eventually finds refuge in an abandoned cemetery called Midian among a tribe of monsters and outcasts known as the "Nightbreed" who hide from humanity. At the time of its release, the film was a commercial and critical failure. In several interviews, Barker protested that the film company tried to sell it as a standard slasher film, and that the powers-that-be had no real working knowledge of Nightbreed's story. Since its initial theatrical release, Nightbreed has become a cult film. (wikipedia) In 2011 Russell Cherrington, Senior Lecturer in Film & Video Production at the University of Derby and long-time friend of Clive’s, watched the DVDs of the workprint tapes and saw the potential in the material for an ambitious project. After asking for a copy, Russell decided to use that newfound video footage and a copy of the early 2nd draft of the Nightbreed script to create a composite cut of the movie, representing what might have been Clive’s original vision, assisted by Final Cut Editor Jimmi Johnson. This version eventually became known as the Cabal Cut, a constantly evolving and galvanizing project, going through as many as 8 different versions, all different as the cut was tweaked here and there for pace with some feedback from Clive Barker himself regarding where some sections should go. According to Russell, when Clive saw this cut, he teared up. ( cliverbarkercast: ) #horror #fantasy #cult #kinostr #kino #movies #filmstr #films #action #90s #rare

Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) Directors: Eleanor Coppola, Fax Bahr, George Hickenlooper image In the late 1970s, as renegade filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola struggles to complete an epic allegory of the Vietnam War, "Apocalypse Now," his wife, Eleanor, films his daily travails with a camera of her own. The documentary based on her footage details the difficulties of the large production -- from weather-related delays in the Philippines to star Martin Sheen's heart attack while filming -- and it provides unprecedented behind-the-scenes clips of one of Hollywood's most-acclaimed films. #documentary #kino #kinostr #documentaries #cinema #films #movies #filmstr
