Ideally:
Quality >>> Quantity
Why?
Quality is more sustainable. If you go for quantity and ignore quality, you will make shitty things. These shitty things won't be durable, won't worth that much, and will go broke quite soon. If something is unusable it is called trash. This means going for quantity just generates trash, and burns human time (something you can never get more of) for something that does not make sense. But in such a World, who would buy shit, right?
Now in a world, where currency depreciates in value, you are incentivized to spend it early to use your money for full of its potential. Manufacturers are incentivized to sell more to keep their earnings up because they might not be able raise the prices of their old stuff. This means they are incentivized to work for quantity. This means they don't have time to make products have a certain quality. So it leads to quantity over quality, which will result in trash.
Working for trash results in overusing the resources of the Earth in a way, that it is unsustainable.
What happens then?

The Human Psychological Pattern
In my opinion, the expectation we pose up on eachother effects the real expectations themselves, and can sometimes make it a self-fullfiling prophecy.
E.g.: If I expect that people are cheap, and I try with my best effort to get money from them in a way, that they don't know about, because I think they would not give it to me voluntarily.
This sends an unconscious message to my customers, that I want to steal from them, which enhances their cheapness, and we start a negative spiral.
