With regard to RealID and similar totalitarian BS by government minions and regulons, considering dropping down a letter in the alphabet and instead of choosing C for compliance try out choosing D for defiance.
Thank you for this clear and compelling description of the problem and your logical suggestion on how Nostr users can share their experience and knowledge. In particular, your emphasis on the role of individuals connecting with those close to the need is important - something that PR and influencers are not up to doing. A synergistic mix of logic and emotion can also be valuable.
GN to all good people. After a few more nights of good dreams and rest there will be sweet, ripe figs - and a few fewer tyrants and their minions wasting good oxygen.
GN all good people. I expect to dream of biological processes that result in a new dawn featuring fewer parasitic tyrants among the physically living creatures of our otherwise beautiful Earth.
GN to all good people, but not to people who are like mosquitos. Did you know that more people are killed each year by mosquitos than by any other animal? Forget such things for a while and enjoy good dreams and restful sleep.
Sunscreens and causation versus correlation - what is real; what is popular delusion; and what is money-grubbing propaganda?
A few facts:
1. Skin cancer incidence is higher than it used to be.
2. Ultraviolet radiation (including from the sun) can stimulate skin cancer.
3. Ultraviolet radiation is divided into three frequency bands designated UVA, UVB, and UVC .
4. UVC from sunlight doesn’t reach the surface of the earth - absorbed by the atmosphere; UVB causes sunburn and accelerate skin aging (wrinkles) but does not penetrate the skin deeply; UVA does not burn, penetrates deeply, and can stimulate melanoma formation and other types of skin cancer.
So what? First, a few more facts:
A) Sunscreens (as opposed to sun blocks) are supposed to chemically absorb UV radiation whereas sun blocks ( like zinc oxide) physically reflect UV radiation. UVB is absorbed well by sunscreens with a high SPF (sun protection factor) but no sunscreen is effective at absorbing UVA.
B) The first sunscreen approved by the FDA to be sold with a label claiming protection from both UVB and UVA radiation contained a chemical “proven” to absorb UVA called parsol-1789 or avobenzone (still used in some products). But chemical that protect from UV by absorbing the radiation break down as they absorb and lose their protective utility as they degrade. Parsol-1789 breaks down very fast - and very few people reapply sunscreen every 20 minutes.
People who use sunscreens successfully reduce their exposure to UVB and therefore down burn as fast and stay in the sun longer - much longer than they would with no sunscreen - and thus they absorb much higher doses of UVA than they would if they had to leave the sun to avoid burning. Therefore, they increase their risk of UVA-induced skin cancer.
Nore that people with naturally dark skin produce more of the skin pigment, melanin, than people with less skin pigmentation. Note that naturally dark-skinned people also have a much lower rate of developing skin cancer than light-skinned people.
Note also that a skin cream or sunscreen lotion or cream formulated with enough melanin to provide UV radiation protection would be brown or bronze in color and would at least mildly darken light skin.
Also note that there is no FDA approved way to prove that melanin or anything else prevents or delays skin cancer with less than a decade of observation and measurement time and thousands of clinical trial participants.
For now at least, having listed these facts, I will resist the temptation to state conclusions or make recommendations.
GN all. Spring flowers are blooming and some birds are migrating. Tonight I’ll dream of a flock of very special birds migrating to Moscow for a midmorning arrival in a civilian-free area of Moscow on May 9.
