Loquat season is here in Florida. This is one of my favorite fruits, sweet and tart, it’s a great snack and easy to grow from seed. The leaves also make a great tea. It pains me that people grow this for an ornamental but never eat the fruit. I love this time of year. Citrus eating season has ended, but the best smelling season has begun. The bees are all over the orange blossoms. I’ve only been to orange country in central Florida a couple times during blossoming season, but the smell is truly intoxicating. I’m not sure if this applies universally, but I have significantly fewer big stains on my car than 20 years ago. I used to use specialized scrubbing mitts when washing and now I just use a sponge… the loss of our insect diversity is going to be a major downfall for future generations, not just for pollination, but as feed for wild animals and birds and to nurture the natural food web. #grownostr #plebchain #permiestr
