Five years ago, I was excited to be part of BTC. It held a promise of changing everything we knew that was corrupted by the touch of government. Then? Governments slowly began sinking their stinking fingers into the Bitcoin ecosystem. So many greedy, stupid maxis cheered it on. "NGU" "Gov't adoption!" "This is good for Bitcoin!" We were supposed to take the money out of the governments control. Fuck.

#Piracy #Content #Streaming Streaming services and digital piracy are locked in a complex relationship. While streaming was initially seen as a way to combat piracy, the fragmented landscape of multiple platforms, rising costs, and exclusive content deals are driving some consumers back to piracy. This is particularly evident as services restrict access to content and content creators try to police their offerings more aggressively. Key Trends and Information: Streaming's Fragmentation Fuels Piracy: The proliferation of streaming services, each with its own content library and subscription fees, has led to subscription fatigue and increased interest in piracy as a cost-effective alternative. The Rise of "Chronic Churners": A significant portion of streamers are now canceling subscriptions frequently due to the cost and complexity of managing multiple services, a trend that further encourages piracy. Piracy is Back, Under a Different Flag: Unlicensed streaming, not downloads, is now the dominant form of piracy, accounting for a large percentage of pirated content, according to MUSO. Efforts to Combat Piracy: Entertainment companies are intensifying their anti-piracy efforts, including hiring specialized teams and pushing for legislation, particularly focused on overseas piracy. Piracy is Not Just a Price Issue: Some industry experts, like Gabe Newell, believe that piracy is more about service issues (convenience, accessibility) than just pricing. The Impact of Piracy on the Economy: Digital piracy has a significant negative impact on the U.S. economy, affecting content creators, technology companies, and other businesses involved in the digital distribution of media, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Normalization of Password Sharing: Password sharing, while often seen as a minor issue, is also contributing to the overall problem of piracy and undercutting legal streaming services.
