Xfiles looks like it was written by a coke head. The show's content all has to do with mental disabilities. The lore is all based on known psychosis. To me? The theme seems like they are taking meth. It is further confirmed by VINCE GILLIGAN'S involvement who is the creator of another show which is stictly about making CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE (breaking bad). The black oil is probably just yet another reference to drugs, heroin.

It's called a BAIT and SWITCH. They bait you with the cartoon aspect and make it seem like a wholesome show at first. Maybe they cross the line a little because they just can't help it, then they switch to filth.
