We are a group of artists, engineers, activists, and technologists who have been behind the largest online protests in human history, channeling Internet outrage into political power to win public interest victories previously thought to be impossible. We fight for a future where technology is a force for liberation— not oppression. https://links.fightforthefuture.org/
This World Press Freedom Day we're seeing journalists face increasing political threats, physical violence + online harassment while media outlets are being bullied into government compliance. What worse is lawmakers think it's a good idea to kill section 230.
From intense surveillance to retaliation for free speech, tech workers have a lot to say about Big Tech’s labor + human rights violations. 🪡🧵
Lawmakers who target Section 230 without understanding it are risking everyone’s right to free speech online and the tools we need to fight for a democracy.
We depend on Section 230 for the ability to talk about issues we care about on social media. Without it, you can kiss most online free speech goodbye unless it’s from billionaires who can afford it, or speech from people they favor.
Support for the Take It Down bill goes to show just how little lawmakers have learned from rampant takedown abuse of systems like the DMCA—it is indeed a slippery slope for free speech because of fake + bad-faith takedown claims. We’ll see how this plays out...
Lots of protests happening so here's a lil PSA diddy: Basket Case but it's about not using Face ID to unlock your phone!
The FTC is requesting comments from social media users about online censorship. Artists- this may seem like the moment you’ve been waiting for but- HOLD UP! Before you submit comments, keep in mind who is running the FTC + their goals! Comments will likely be used to justify greater governmental control over social media, rather than bring justice to artists censored online. image
