We are a group of artists, engineers, activists, and technologists who have been behind the largest online protests in human history, channeling Internet outrage into political power to win public interest victories previously thought to be impossible. We fight for a future where technology is a force for liberation— not oppression. https://links.fightforthefuture.org/
New report examines role of digital platforms in violating digital rights amidst the genocide via systematic censorship of Palestinian voices + content.
Know any writers? In partnership with RightsCon, Strange horizons + CompostMag - over the next 2 months, we're calling for short stories that speak to depictions of centralized surveillance tech. More deets on Submissions/prompt 👉 (🔗 in bio). Spread the word and let’s make some art that’s also resistance!
You've probably heard the news by now about Internet Archive. It takes a lot to stand up to greedy corporations who don't care about humanity at all and it's an honor to support their mission. Please share some love to them as they reckon with this ruling:
We’re joining STOP (Surveillance Tech Oversight Project) , Encode Justice NY, and other friends on August 21 at Citi Field to tell the Mets and the MLB: Facial recognition endangers fans. It's time to bench ALL biometric surveillance tech at stadiums. Wanna join us? Click the link in our bio to RSVP ⚾️💨 image
We've joined Just Future's Law, Con Mijente, and Media Justice on a campaign that makes it super easy to opt out of the Clearview joke settlement that'll pay pennies without taking any meaningful steps to stop mass facial recognition. Sign up here: clearviewcopout.org
Did you hear about the massive internet outage that just hit? Airlines grounded, banks offline, media silenced – all because of one software update gone wrong. This isn't just a tech hiccup. It's a wake-up call about the dangers of Big Tech monopolies. When a single company's mistake can freeze global systems, we've got a serious problem.
Did you know you can opt out of TSA facial recognition scans? With 400+ airports adding this tech in 2024, it's crucial to know your rights. Join the #OptOutClub to protect your privacy and push back against potential algorithmic bias. Learn more at our event this Friday!
Recently, mounting activist/expert pressure has been forcing companies to take decisive action on this issue: both Google and Discord made announcements this month about expanded end-to-end encryption testing and roll-out:
Just the most recent examples of how DMs are used to target activists: The Colorado Springs police department forcing Meta to hand over the private Facebook messages of a housing justice advocate and of the Chinook Center, a small progressive Colorado Springs organization:
This roll out couldn’t happen fast enough. Privacy experts have been pointing to importance of end-to-end encryption for years – for everyone online, but especially for vulnerable people historically targeted by surveillance, including activists, journalists, immigrants, and other racialized people
We cannot rely on tech companies to protect us, esp when they see the 246100 potential of AI. What we need is strong federal data privacy legislation that will actually protect us from corporate surveillance & stop companies like Zoom from harvesting & abusing our data for profit.
