I prefer genre fiction to non-fiction, but this book about a painter’s winter on the Arctic island of Spitsbergen with her husband in 1934 is top notch. Beautiful imagery describing the landscape and subtle touches of humor fill the chapters. My trip to Svalbard next year will be far more luxurious than her stays in hunters’ huts scattered across the north coast, but I hope to see and feel some of the wonders she describes. #bookstr #polar #arctic #biography #diary

Huge thunderstorm came through last night. Got a bit of lightning and rolling thunder on video! ⛈️ This is around 1:30 am. No correction on the visual: with low storm clouds, the light pollution of the suburbs makes the sky that appear that light. #vidstr #weather #thunderstorm

A friend found a book of vintage flower illustrations that Kew Gardens turned into a grayscale coloring book. Great paper for colored pencils, not great at all if you want to use watercolors, which is my friend’s favorite. So I did a little experiment… Brush the page to color with clear gesso and let dry overnight. The page curled, so use clips to keep flat. Use watercolors and watercolor pencils. Add gold highlights with acrylic marker for fun. Look at back of colored page and be a bit surprised how good it still looks. The clear gesso is rough to work on, but it did what it was supposed to do, so I’ll call this a success. ✅ #art #artstr #artprocess #watercolor #bloomstr #rustypuppyart
