🏆 International Emmy winner for best short-form series 2024. In a Europe where youth drift between political apathy and the lure of far-right populism, Serbia’s students rise in defiance. What began with the deadly collapse of Novi Sad’s train station — a tragedy that exposed endemic corruption — ignited the longest student strike in modern European history. From university occupations to peaceful marches challenging Aleksandar Vučić’s regime, a new generation dares to imagine democracy against fear, repression, and the shadows of the Balkan wars. Can a nonviolent revolution succeed in the 21st century? Why is Europe silent? And can Serbia break free from ultranationalism to claim a plural and democratic future? With exclusive access inside Belgrade’s University of Dramatic Arts — the birthplace and nerve center of the uprising — Point of No Return captures the victories, contradictions, and struggles of a movement whose battle of ideas could shape not only Serbia’s destiny, but that of a Europe in crisis.

The idea is simple: we pull iron and steel out of rivers, clean the water, sell the scrap, and convert it into Bitcoin. No sponsors, no budget, no filters – just two friends, a magnet, and a boat held together with hope.

Following the alleged sonic attack on thousands of people holding a silent vigil during the mass protest in Belgrade, Serbia, on 15 March 2025, Earshot conducted a comprehensive investigation. This included analysis of audio from 19 videos, the aggregation of over 3,000 written statements from attendees, and 15 in-depth Earwitness interviews with protestors positioned along Kralja Milana Boulevard. This research led Earshot to conclude that it is highly likely that protestors were subjected to a targeted attack using a directional acoustic weapon. The conclusions of the report contradict claims made by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation and Serbian authorities, that the disturbances were caused by crowd-generated sounds such as pyrotechnic and incendiary devices. After carefully listening to the precise and consistent descriptions by earwitnesses Earshot were able to produce this audio reconstruction approximating the sound of the attack. The reconstructed audio serves as a sonic identikit of a fugitive sound that, despite overwhelming amounts of witness statements to the contrary, has been denied by the authorities, and has evaded capture on recording devices (an explanation for which is addressed in the in-depth report). By presenting a reconstruction of this sound, built by its Earwitnesses, Earshot intends to materialize the experience of thousands of people. This investigation was made possible through a collaboration with the Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA). Link to the full report at earshot.ngo
