I’m drawn to philosophy… especially the wisdom of the ancient Greeks, the Romans, & the great Asian civilizations. What fascinates me is not just what they thought… but how they lived. These were people who weren’t consumed by constant emails, notifications, or the endless noise we experience today. Their lives were simpler in structure, but NOT easier. Survival itself required real intention. They had to grow their own food. They had to care for their livestock. They had to repair their homes, gather firewood, & prepare for seasons that could determine whether their family lived or died. And yet, despite all of that, there was a great depth to their lives that feels rare today. Any time they carved out beyond survival wasn’t filled with distraction… it was filled with meaning. Time for family. Time for thought. Time to observe the world around them. There was a connection… to community, to nature, a natural responsibility to each other that ran deep. I think that’s what many of us are searching for today… whether we realize it or not.
