GM! β I jjust migrated from
@Amethyst to
@primal (I mostly use Nostr on Android) with a lot of joy, and also some hiccups. I'm still glad I did π
πΈ All my previous DMs are encrypted, unreadable in Primal.
πΈ Can't send new DM to anyone (I've got a bunch of relays). Yes, default DMs are really bad, although Amethyst did address that.
@White Noise compatibility/standard can't come soon enough to all #Nostr clients, but in the meantime DMs in Primal are completely broken. For me at least, with 2 accounts.
πΈ I learned that all my previous DMs (for years) from Amethyst to Primal users were most likely never delivered. Not cool :/
πΈ Primal doesn't show my old bookmark lists (private and public). Now I only have a public bookmark list, and it was blank. (I thought it was a standard "kind 10003" or something). I cannot see other ppl's bookmarks, from Primal.
πΈ Similarly, my blocked users list is empty as well. I thought those lists would be accessible across clients but maybe no.
πΈ No way to manage lists of users, or even to display any list I already created (kind 30000 I think). This could be really useful. I hope more clients will implement it.
πΈ No way to "share" something from an Android app to Primal. A URL for example, when you tap "share" in your web browser.
πΈ No drafts feature.
πΈ A few minor bugs.
Pretty sure a lot of this will be implemented or fixed in the future. A lot of this is probably trivial π
Maybe some problems are due to using Amber? Seems unlikely but who knows.
On the bright side, with Primal:
πΉ Search works great
πΉ I love the "Reads" section
πΉ UI/UX in general, although lacking some key features, is very slick & enjoyable
πΉ Amethyst became a powerful but scary monster with each new update. Those settings... π£
OTOH, I can easily recommend Primal to normies and grandmas!
The masochistic steampunk nerd in me will always prefer Amethyst. But for everyday, I'm happy to stick to a #Nostr client for humans π
Final thought:
Consider implementing those LISTS OF USERS, public and private, manageable from within the client, and tied to your account, not your client.
Check out #Coracle. #Voyage. #Yakihonne. ...
Thanks to all the devs for their amazing work π
