The concept of intellectual property should be abolished.
Property rights are derived from scarcity.
If you own 1 Bitcoin, I take that Bitcoin, you no longer have it. Possession is lost.
Ideas are not scarce. If you have an idea, I take that idea, we both have the idea. You have lost nothing.
What it does do is breed competition and innovation. The individual that can best execute that idea will likely be more successful.
Granted, if you have an idea, you have the right to try to keep it secret. Absolutely.
But if it becomes known, then everyone should be allowed to implement the idea as they want.
Open source software would be far more prevalent if companies couldn't protect their fiefdoms through copyright and patent laws.
It doesn't mean Google, Microsoft,, Facebook, and Amazon wouldn't exist or be large, but there would certainly be more competition.
We have a discussion in DC right now about breaking up tech companies due to their monopolistic nature. But this only creates more monopolies.
Fixing patent and copyright law would fix it at the source.
