A GENERATION AT RISK: GAMBLING, BETTING, & SCAMINNG ARE DESTROYING BANGLADESH’S YOUTH. WHERE IS THE AWARENESS?
In Bangladesh today, a clear and growing threat is affecting our youth. Online gambling, sports betting, scam trading apps, and digital fraud disguised as “easy money.” It’s no longer hidden, it’s happening in the open. We see the damage, we hear the stories, and yet the response remains painfully limited. What often starts as harmless curiosity soon leads to addiction, debt, depression, broken families, and lost futures.
This crisis is not just personal, it’s national. Still, educational institutions rarely address it. Our schools and colleges host endless programs, but almost none focused on warning students about these traps. At least, that we don't see yet now.
Why aren’t there active campaigns inside classrooms? Why don’t we see door-to-door awareness drives? Why are mosques, media, and community leaders not stepping in with urgency? Why not government conducting awareness program and necessary action for it? Beyond a few scattered news in the news media, this epidemic receives almost no meaningful attention.
Those platforms are not designed to make anyone rich, they’re designed to get people hooked and then ruin them. And the cost isn’t just paid by the one who falls in, it’s paid by their entire family, friends, and society at large.
It’s time for a united effort. Awareness needs to reach the spaces where young people live, learn, and grow schools, coaching centers, social media, and even our homes and mosques.
We require teachers, academics, opinion influencers, and parents to speak out loudly and forcefully.
We cannot let ourselves be idle while a generation is being lost to false promise and financial pitfalls. Let's do something now, not later! At least, spread awareness to educate, defend, and rebuild the road toward a brighter future.
