The Gossip Vulnerability: Why NIP-17's "Deniable" Messages Aren't ![](https://m.stacker.news/118485) # What This Means for Nostr > The Nostr community should acknowledge this tradeoff explicitly. NIP-17 is excellent for censorship resistance and metadata privacy, but it's not suitable for truly deniable communications. Users needing real deniability should use Signal or Session. > > The unsigned "rumor" provides psychological comfort but no cryptographic protection. The signed seal is the vulnerability, and it's unfixable without redesigning Nostr's entire authentication model. > > This isn't a failure, it's physics. Cryptography has limits. The impossible triangle of decentralized, authenticated, and deniable messaging is truly impossible. Every protocol must choose its compromises. > > Nostr chose decentralization and authentication. That's a valid choice. But calling the messages "deniable" because the inner layer is unsigned? That's not cryptography, that's marketing. > > The gossip attack is real. The ZK proof works. And the rumor isn't deniable after all.

Posters to support Creators, Stackers, Cowboys & Bitcoin NPOs ![Wild West Posters](https://m.stacker.news/111780) Nearly two years ago already, we created the [Wild West Posters initiative](https://stacker.news/items/430501/r/AGORA), as part of the [Open Design Challenges](https://stacker.news/items/430498/r/AGORA), to demonstrate how a community like stacker news could create value, not only for its participants, but also to an entire ecosystem. Here's the website www.Posters.BTC.pub ![](https://m.stacker.news/111781) But why limit it only to wester movie posters? With the latest @Scoresby's [31-Word Horror Movie Review Contest](https://stacker.news/items/1244423/r/AGORA) initiative, we are seeing a new wave of posters coming up. We'd love to add them all to the collection, @deSign_r's ones are already ready for print. Reinterpret and redesign the movie poster with your next review. _Turn your preferred movie posters into attractive Bitcoin ads._ @UCantDoThatDotRugged was the first getting a poster sale, getting [some sats awarded]( for it, and we look forward to continuing doing so. Isn't much, but we want you stackers to decide what to do with the current sats received from current and future posters sales. Here are the options: - Continue to reward poster **Creators**, they are the ones creating PoW so they deserve the sats. - Donate it to **Bitcoin-only not-for-profit organizations** (NPO) that are doing so much to support the bitcoin ecosystem and its contributors. @OpenSats is the first one that came to mind, together with HRF and all [other organizations](https://www.btcfornonprofits.org) that support bitcoin developers and infinite other for-good initiatives. We are also evaluating other [bitcoin NPOs](https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/List_of_Bitcoin_non-profits_around_the_world), share your preferred one in the comments below if you vote for this option. - Dump it in the [rewards](/rewards) pool: even if not much sats, it will continue supporting the growing SN community. Every sat count! - **Keep it** to support the initiative - **Other** ideas? We are all ears: share it in the comments. So these are the options, now... # Who you'd like to send the next batch of sats to?

AGORA territory campaign design to create business awarness ![](https://m.stacker.news/106224) This will be our third official campaign to market the ~AGORA `P2P Marketplace` territory and create more awareness inside SN community, as outside in the Wild West Web. A targeted advertising effort to reach the audience most likely to engage with SN and, more specifically, people that are aiming to trade peer to peer with Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. ## The strategy The idea is simple, as we know, we humans are drive actions. We listed all the possible actions SN and in particular the AGORA could trigger in stakes and visitors, the results that came out are ZAP, BUY, SELL, STACK. - ZAP and STACK are peculiarly particular for stackers, but also a trigger for others interested in giving and accumulating sats. A invite and refers to the Value 4 Value model, that incentivize creators to offer anything without expectations on a Open Source Everything basis. People that will find it valuable, will be happy to zap some sats in exchange for the value received, allowing the creator to humbly stack some sats. - BUY and SELL are obviously unique actions we aim stackers will associate with the **AGORA `P2P Marketplace`**, but also a message for other businesses, merchants and individual sellers to know that there's a place for them to advertise and trade peer-to-peer using bitcoin as a medium of exchange. - - - ![AGORA Support P2P Business](https://m.stacker.news/106219) As part of the campaign, we also launched a parallel sub-campaign that aim to highlight businesses, merchants and sellers currently advertising with the ~AGORA. You can find the ongoing, growing list here # and here our latest heros: | ![](https://m.stacker.news/106207)| ![](https://m.stacker.news/106208)| ![](https://m.stacker.news/106209)| ![](https://m.stacker.news/106210) |![](https://m.stacker.news/106211) |![](https://m.stacker.news/106212)| | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | |@beejay| @Kontext | @PictureRoom | @thebullishbitcoiner | @BTCLNAT | @SalmaChan | You will also see each stacker individually highlighted in the daily @saloon, and in our social accounts with the aim to not only promote the AGORA, but also the people that are making it happen. Hopefully we drive more business to them too. ## We are looking for collaborators to spread this campaign out. If you run a website and want to have an excuse more to drive traffic to SN and hear some rewards, feel free to embed the assets listed above together with your [referral link](https://stacker.news/referrals/month/r/AGORA) in your website, ecommerce, newsletter or any other social media channel. Reach out to @AGORA or @AG if you'd like to harden our collaboration, so we can plan it together and improve its performances to drive meaningful engagement within your community. - - - ## The Campaign Assets We commissioned these banners for the campaign, simple, impactful, colorful and aligned with SN branding. So we shared the [Stacker News Media Kit](https://stacker.news/items/872925/r/AGORA) assembled by @Jon_Hodl and @deSign_r , together with the requirements. This is what we got! Sign to accept your salary in bitcoin? > NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. may be having the last laugh against critics of his decision to take his salary in Bitcoin. > When Beckham opted to convert his 2021 base salary of $750,000 from the Los Angeles Rams to Bitcoin as part of an endorsement deal with the Block-owned (NYSE:XYZ) Cash App, critics were quick to argue that he was making a mistake. These critics only grew louder as a market crash ensued the following year, which saw Bitcoin lose nearly 80% of its value. > “Sooooo Bitcoin is at an ALL TIME high today...safe to say we still happy with our decision,” he said on X on July 14 as the asset surged to record highs above $120,000. Even if you are not earning $750,000 and you are not rich enough to put all your salary into investment yet, accepting bitcoin for your salary sounds a good deal. Some people are worried about the fluctuations in the market but as long as the employer gives you the equivalent amount of btc in usd, I think there should be no problems, am I not right? The good thing is if you are planning to put your salary in bitcoin to invest, you do not need to convert it into bitcoin since it was given to you in bitcoin already.
