People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying ‘no’ to 1,000 things. – Steve Jobs

Think about this: Once AIs take off you’re not going to need to navigate terrible UIs anymore. The simple prompt / chat interface will be the first manifestation but it won’t be the last. Why? Because most people need help generating prompts. Empty canvasses overwhelm them and feel like work. So interfaces will have to evolve to help people think of interesting things to do.

Saying: “I don’t understand how people could think x” is really saying: “I haven’t steelmanned their view on x”

Two ways hubris effects the product process: Engineers rush to produce solutions while Designers spend too much time perfecting solutions. Both will typically lead to mediocre solutions. Rushing to a solution means you didn’t take enough time to understand the problem. And spending too much time “perfecting” the solution means you aren’t leaving room for new problems to come from your “solution”. Humility fixes this.
