BTC Prague hackday was fantastic, here are some snapshots from yesterday. And the action continues at the expo until Saturday.
The design lounge is coming together for BTC Prague hack day tomorrow.
Tick tock, almost time for BTC Prague. We'll be there all days, from June 7 - 10. Stop by at hackday and meet us at our expo booth to chat about open-source design and bitcoin, bring along your project for feedback. Big thanks to Spiral for sponsoring.
Here's the schedule for the design lounge at the BTC Prague hackday on June 7. It will be casual and conversational, touching on various design & bitcoin topics. image
We had a great call with Collin yesterday about Etta Wallet, an open-source, and non-custodial bitcoin & lightning wallet with a strong bias towards usability, accessibility and good UX. The Wallet Scrutiny team is also making great progress refreshing their website design with a soft launch coming up very soon. Both are community project that live and breathe with open contributions. Cheer them on and chip in if you can, this is how the bitcoin ecosystem gets built.
7 days until BTC Prague. We’re helping organize a design lounge with talks and design activities, and we’ll also have a booth at the expo. More details to come. Will you be there?
If you missed the design review call with the @Damus crew yesterday, here's a recording.
Global Accessibility Awareness Day is over, but let’s keep at it and make these considerations part of our daily design and development best practices. Will we need another awareness day next year, or can we fix all issues by then? Time will tell, it’s up to us 😉. Shout-out to everyone who participated in our bitcoin accessibility day event, including @ZEUS, @Wallet of Satoshi, @BOLT🔩FUN, @peachbitcoin, @BTCPay Server, Muun, @Alby, and others. Let’s keep at it. Browse the accessibility page in the design guide (https://bitcoin.design/guide/designing-products/accessibility/) and join our channel in Discord to discuss and get support. Did you participate yesterday? Thank you! Reply or DM, let us know what you did and we’ll send over this badge. https://badges.page/b/naddr1qqsxzcmrv4ehx6tzd9kxjare94shwctjv4hx2umn94jxz7fdxgcryvczyzxznvep6reuvy6r3qh2f93raprhz6gv6ptxus9epuywt56rx642qqcyqqq82wgrkhml9
Global Accessibility Awareness Day is today. We'd like to invite you to do something related to accessibility today. Have a conversation, browse the accessibility page in the guide (https://bitcoin.design/guide/designing-products/accessibility/), improve accessibility in your product. We are having a jam session in about 45 minutes with an intro, common issues, how to test, and more. Find the link in our Discord. Thank you to the GAAD organizers for starting this initiative.
So you pressed a button, but you got no feedback that it worked. What do you do? That’s the situation many users with accessibility needs find themselves in. Make sure to not just provide visual feedback, but instruct screen readers to announce the change as well. image Join us tomorrow and participate in Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
The most common accessibility problem we found is a lack of labels. What good is a button when you can’t tell what it does? These can be usually fixed application-wide in a few hours by adding simple attributes (like "aria-label": https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility/ARIA/Attributes/aria-label). Some frameworks even have linters that automatically tell you when you have missing labels - super convenient. Testing your app takes just a few minutes. Here's how to test a web-based one: More about accessibility here: We invite you to help raise awareness for this topic this Thursday (in 3 days) for Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
image Join us on Wednesday for our next community call. We'll chat about Global Accessibility Awareness Day (which is Thursday) and how you can chip in, BTC Prague, and Bitcoin Miami. https://twitter.com/i/spaces/1BRJjZvoBQoJw And the issue with more details: PS: We're back to Twitter Spaces for this one. Nostr Nests was technically better, but we got such little participation. Let's get everyone to Nostr soon.
Do you know of any good slide decks to introduce bitcoin to newbies in a local community setting?
