Why are the followings keeps getting deleted?do we have to refollow everytime?

Why is zapping button goes on and off? Its on when my profile picture turns into this bird image or my chosen Banner URL?And it turns off my pfp goes blank? Can someone explain?

Can someone explain why zapping is better than liking? And what possitive effects does zapping does to the users? Does zapping with bigger amounts have bigger returns?
