Just realized Time Machine works with a self-hosted Samba file server, even over a VPN. I wish I had known this before — connecting a hard drive every time I needed to backup was so annoying 😅 #selfhosted

I wrote a simple file server setup for my own personal home server that can - be accessed from anywhere in the world securely via Tailscale - be accessed without having to remember weird port numbers - be unreachable on the local wi-fi - be used on native apps on many OSs - be installed/deployed easily with minimal configuration I shared the docker code on Github, please feel free to try it out and let me know if you find it useful (or any other feedback)!
