I don’t know who Aunt Ida was or to whom she gave this book as a gift. It was Christmas 1940, and Germany was at war. The drums of war were beating. Young boys abandoned their favorite toys to become soldiers, with five long years of conflict ahead. For what? If only this book could speak, what stories of that fateful time might it tell?

Es werden Notfallbenachrichtugungen auf dem Handy getestet, während draußen die Sirenen heulen. Mal wieder. Mich hat noch nie jemand gefragt ob ich den Alarm bekommen habe. Was ist also dee Sinn der Übung? Soll das Volk so lange in Alarmbereitschaft gehalten werden, bis der letzte glaubt, morgen kommt der Russe? Wehrpflicht nein danke. Meine Söhne kriegt ihr nicht! - Und ich werde künftig keine Benachrichtigung mehr von euch erhalten.
