Absolutely enchanting foggy morning in TN today. Can't get enough. This is the good life!

New friends regularly learn we have 6 kids and comment, "I don't know how you do it". I'll let my nostr friends in on a little secret. Kids don't have to be a burden. Our culture keeps people infantilised into their thirties now. This is my young daughter. Every day she walks across our property, fetches our goats, milks them, filters the milk, cleans up, and brings it home, rain or shine. You want to know the craziest part... She loves it and takes pride in it. Everyone in our household has responsibilities from a young age. If you ever read this, I'm proud of you , baby! Daddy always loves you.

Our family cat passed away the day before yesterday. I wanted to share a few takeaways. Honestly, I wasn't attached to the cat, but this was the first time I witnessed my kids collectively grieving, and it hit me hard. I tried to make a little video about this, but kept getting choked up. When my wife called me on the phone to tell me, all I could hear was wailing in the background. When I returned to the property, I assumed that I would have to hold the household together for a little while. What I found surprised me. The kids were comforting each other... It absolutely overwhelmed me with emotion. Any of them could have been overwhelmed, but they were ok together. They had each other. When I brought the cat to its grave, they lost it, but despite their usual content fighting, they naturally held each other. After the burial, my youngest boy was having a moment, and the oldest daughter got herself together enough to hold him and tell him, "It's ok, you did such a good job feeding her every day." 😫 Family is so important when life is hard. It doesn't have to be blood, but protect what family you have at all costs. Our fiat society wants nothing less than the dissolution of the nuclear family, and I understand why. It is such a a powerful bulwark against hopelessness. We must build, protect, and heal our families! RIP Dewey

Just a reminder that kids want time and memories with their parents more than they want things from them. I often forget this. Even a poor child with a strong family is going to live a richer life, in my opinion, than some upper middle class kid that realistically spends less than 5 hours a week with their parents. I'm happy for them to come crash my projects anytime. The whole reason I work so hard is for them in the first place, they aren't in my way. I even take the boys with me to work from time to time. Just so they can SEE what a workday looks like. That's something I never got a closeup on when I was young. #dadlife #growstr #nostr #homestead #offgrid

This was the most difficult two weeks of my life so far. I'm NOT usually a busy guy but I've been working 12 to 16 hour a day for 5 weeks straight. Managing our house sale and moving everything out, continuing to write, got my bjj blue belt, working on several construction projects, building our off-grid setup, my stack wasnt where I wanted it when we pumped, and honestly, I feel like I'm hanging on by a thread. This was the first night I felt like I could truly relax and soak it all in. I'm so grateful... So grateful for work, for this amazing place to live... I've always had a great deal to say but have never mustered the courage to post on social media. I rationalized this by telling myself I was too humble, which is embarrassingly self-aggrandizing in hindsight. Nostr has helped me realize that it wasn't humility; it was an inability to subject my most vulnerable and valuable thoughts to a feudal platform where I might be censored, algorimatized, and commodified.
