Many people may hold it long term for the wrong reason but it still works, #Bitcoin, is a better answer, and people that hodl it are in it 100% for its monetary value. Only about 5% of Bitcoin remain to be mined. Meanwhile (according to some estimates) 23% of Gold remains to be mined. And without a difficulty adjustment, as price goes up so does production. Bitcoin is just different.
