I was fortunate to have a credit union that offered Bitcoin purchases through a NYDIG account. It was an expensive way to buy Bitcoin, and it had many limitations (you could not transfer or self custody the Bitcoin), but I kept a small balance to test it and support the credit union for offering it. I saw it as a positive for Bitcoin awareness and education. I just received a call from my credit union informing me that NYDIG is closing all Bitcoin accounts and they are not providing any transferability. The account must be liquidated. My credit union said they were surprised and disappointed. I hoped NYDIG would have evolved this service and provided a path to more robust Bitcoin gateway access for the public through the banking system. New Bitcoin holders could then advance to more advanced self-custody services and tools. NYDIG not going to do that. #NYDIG #Banking @Caitlin Long
