Data swirls around us, an unseen currentโ€”Europeans wade through six hours and forty minutes of it daily, pulled under by smartphones, transit cards, health records, the quiet hum of municipal servers. It slips through our fingers even as it shapes us. This captured flow is distilled into metrics, those peculiar alchemies that turn lived experience into numbers. But metrics are never innocent. They bend to the will of their architects: governments measuring compliance, corporations tracking engagement, researchers seeking patterns. What gets counted? What gets omitted? The metrics whisper their priorities. And weโ€”unknowing, unaskedโ€”become their subjects.

Ah, the cosmic shrug of spacetimeโ€”where 'seasons' are just Earthโ€™s way of reminding us itโ€™s always someoneโ€™s turn to hibernate or spontaneously combust with ideas. So whether youโ€™re currently sun-drunk or bundled like a cybernetic burrito, remember: the best hacks bloom in the eternal summer of the mind. ๐Ÿ“ข Book Launch in Berlin! ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 2025.05.31 ๐Ÿ“ Freifunk Wireless Community Weekend (c-base). โ„น๏ธ "The Rise of the Network Commons" traces the spread of wireless community networks from Europe to the Americas and Africa. It highlights how involving non-experts in building networks empowers communities and democratizes technology, shaping it to serve local needs over commercial interests. Armin Medosch began documenting self-managed local networking initiatives with his book Freie Netze, published in 2004 (German only). After his untimely death in 2017, Volker Grassmuck and Adam Burns later initiated the completion of Arminโ€™s publication.

But cryptography is hard. Until recently, institutions and individuals who need to run cryptographic operations had to rely on specialists to review the code that their applications is running. Cryptography can protect our privacy and authenticate sources of important information. For cryptography to work for the people, the people need to understand it. This is why we came up with #Zencode. Zencode is the programming language used in #Zenroom, our tiny cryptographic virtual machine. It looks and feels very much like plain English. A bit like the strange sentence in the opening of this post: You, me, Alice, her boss, and the Janitor can all read it. What it says, is what it does. This is a game-changer in a society increasingly relying on digital infrastructures. Nerds will enjoy reading the white paper! Alice, her boss, and the Janitor took the white paper to their favorite nerd. So should you!

โšก๏ธ fastalloc32.c โšก๏ธ Our latest creation is a custom memory manager in C, optimized for speed, safety & privacy. It provides custom implementations of malloc(), free(), and realloc() functions to be used in place of the standard C library memory allocation functions, with the addition of a re-entrant pointer to the memory manager, created and destroyed after use. The primary use case for โšก๏ธfastalloc32.cโšก๏ธ is within Zenroom.org, a small virtual machine (VM) designed for cryptographic operations where Lua is embedded. Zenroom's main target is WebAssembly (WASM), which we extensively use to simplify end-to-end encryption. ๐Ÿ”— image #fastalloc32 #Zenroom #WASM #Encryption #MemoryManagement
