Seeing Christmas be more broadly celebrated in Vietnam than in Australia was a shock to me.
Seeing how they celebrate their Lunar New Year where people travel half a day or more to go spend time with family and the whole place shuts down for ~2 weeks was something else.
Asia still values culture - they value something like Christmas more than ostensibly Christian countries.
They value family completely differently. I could write a whole thread about just Tet music which is all about going home to see family; seriously impressive propaganda, feels like the West in the 80s where music was made to unify people.
The West is no longer competing - they’re already done and they just don’t know it yet.
It’s going to take generations and guillotines to undo the rot of the West and nobody seems ready to face that reality.
Asia already ate pain, they’re going to Bradbury their way to the top just because they refused to dilute themselves and held fast to remain a coherent people.

What if @jack bringing Bitcoiners all over to #nostr was an op so Xitter could be turned into the Western WeChat on stablecoin rails with no Maxis left there to berate everyone for using fiat?
Been on #nostr 3+ years, I really thought someone would have rebuilt TheSilkRoad by now.
Maybe we all just got too old?

Rupert Lowe is the first serious politician I have seen in my lifetime with both the balls and wisdom to be able to turn his country around.
Maybe Bukele but I don’t know enough about El Salvador and don’t speak Spanish so can’t judge as well.
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, France - they don’t have **anyone** of this calibre or conviction. Literally doesn’t matter which of the current options get into power, it will be more of the same.
Lowe however is a lion amongst a mob of foxes. He must scare the shit out of the parasites because he will eject them from the host, not play pretend like Trump or Farage or any of these other big talkers who ultimately don’t have the gumption to do what needs to be done.

We don’t need new cities.
We need to get people who don’t belong in our cities, out.

Recently finished an excellent book for #bookstr, “What’s Wrong With The World” by GK Chesterton
I’ve read some of his novels which I enjoyed, but none of his political/philosophical work and have to say I was delighted.
Weird word for me to use to express my feelings about a book, but this was truly a delightful read. Chesterton’s prose is 🤌 From reading social media posts or LLM outputs to this, it’s like being transported to another realm - a much better one that you want to be in for longer.
Incredibly prescient thinker, this book was written in 1910 but has aged super well.
His angle is brilliant. Instead of ranting about what’s wrong, he argues that we don’t spend nearly enough time thinking about what is right and what a good life looks like and uses that as his frame.
Puts capitalism (the crony type) on blast, education as a tool of making drones for the State, and the way he dissects women’s suffrage is excellent - truly the most coherent articulation of why it’s a bad idea, as he could see what we would lose socially from this change and he writes it without sounding like a misogynist incel.
Found myself re-reading sentences and paragraphs a lot in this one, one example was his “theft of a triangle” (excerpt in pic 2) point which had me giggling - he has a knack of being able to express the things we should care about not in some cardinal ranking system, but in a way that makes us human and truly resonates.
Highly recommend this one, his way with words alone is worth it. I’ve got some more of his stuff on the list for later this year which I’m quite looking forward to!

My problem is I want millions of people to be guillotined.
Your problem is you don’t want anyone guillotined.
Shall we meet in the middle and just guillotine hundreds of thousands?

Up next for #bookstr is Understanding Human Nature by Alfred Adler.
A bit of a strange read 100 years on, Adler was to Freud as Hayek was to Keynes in their days.
That he was considered heterodox seems strange when you look around and see Devouring Mother Karen archetypes trying to destroy the West - he predicts women overcompensating for an inferiority complex and that’s certainly played out.
Where his critique is found lacking is his desire for the removal of the Chesterton’s Fence around traditional femininity and masculinity which he sees as purely a status thing. Just look around, it’s clear it wasn’t purely status but was a functional pillar that kept an equilibrium in society which whilst not perfect, did allow it to progress and grow.
To me, that left a cloud over his work. I can’t say the world would have been better off if Adler had been the dominant force in his field instead of Freud, like I confidently could say about Hayek over Keynes. Hayek was more aware of limitations whereas Adler doesn’t pay so much mind to them. But then again, I’m not as deep into the theory there as with economics.
Wouldn’t recommend this one, it will feel too obvious just from life experience for this to be of real value to anyone today.

I think I’ve got a solution to a bunch of the Western World’s problems, hear me out..
What if we just nuked Davos right now?
