After watching the news of the past few days - words fail. In the darkest hour, among the darkest facets of humanity I stay optimistic and hopeful for a better tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™ May the souls lost, find peace. ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ•Š *** This is what I'm listening to at the moment. It's not particularly deep. But to me it's comforting in a time of darkness. Irreverent, poignant, and... hopeful.

I had an excellent question once from a seminar participant: "What's the average lifespan of a mining rig and what happens to it at the end of it's lifespan? Is it landfill?" AFAIK some parts might be recycled but the rest is landfill. I was given 2 S9 antminers and after learning how they operate and testing them out... here are my thoughts. Likely, anyone mining has had a similar trajectory of cranial rumblings. -They're LOUD. So to keep indoors would require some good sound dampening and piping. -They aren't currently profitable. (But could be with a lower time preference if the Sats are stacked.) So to use as a heater is intriguing. -The lifespan of these ASICs is short. So it's basically recycling and landfill after 3-5 years. Not great for sustainability ๐Ÿ˜ All that metal and plastic mined. Oooof. -Should I bother joining a pool or just lottery solo mine? Hm. And that's where I am with this. Moore's law essentially guarantees the obsolescence of these rather quickly. Which is why a decentralized algo like the Monero one in theory seems better. I'm open to more thoughts and perspectives. Advice? image

"You'll own nothing and be happy." With the prospect of 80-year mortgages, fractional ownership, a larger government presence, high taxes, and Universal Basic Income (UBI), it appears that traditional notions of ownership are evolving. While I remain open to these changes, I have an underlying resistance to this. Being a proud owner of tangible possessions brings a profound sense of pride and responsibility. It's a deeply personal experience. I don't have strong attachments to most items, for they're all mostly replaceable, but being able to care for and "own" something should be preserved as we embrace the advancements in AI and robotics. The transformative impact of AI and robotics on humanity is undeniable, but the concept of owning things outright should remain an enduring part of our future. Cars, houses, instruments, technology, digital property, books, clothes, bandwidth, food even etc... time to start thinking about how we enshrine ownership rights.

Nostr is still SO refreshingly awesome! Every time I pop in and engage, there's so many people acting cool, helping each other, thinking critically and wanting to learn and build. The real time convos about tech, computing science, Bitcoin etc has been second to none. WGMI, happy Saturday Nostrinos! ๐Ÿค™โšก๏ธ๐ŸŽฏ
