#Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From #Zurich with love.

#Satoshi told me that we need more girls in #bitcoin.
Budapest. We are all Satoshi.

In the chic Bálna building of #Budapest, Hungary’s presidency hosted an informal gathering of political directors. The star of the show? None other than Mario #Draghi, who gave a sneak peek of his forthcoming report at Wednesday’s Permanent Representatives Committee meeting.
As for #ChatControl? Still radio silence (Governments will discuss 'progress' on October 10th/11th).
But hey, it’s becoming glaringly obvious why #Europe’s slowly signing its own death warrant.
Smooth sailing? Not exactly.
"#Regulatory barriers to scaling up are particularly onerous in the tech sector, especially for #young #companies. Regulatory barriers constrain growth in several ways. First, #complex and #costly #procedures across fragmented national systems discourage inventors from filing Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), hindering young companies from leveraging the Single Market. Second, the EU’s regulatory stance towards tech companies #hampers #innovation (…)”.
#Congrats. 😑🤬
#Notion, the all-in-one platform for project management, note-taking, and personal or team organization, was forced to halt its operations in Russia due to U.S. sanctions. Digital independence is becoming a necessity.
Be the best version of yourself as much as you can. You will never have anything to reproach yourself for.
Giving up private conversation means giving up a fundamental part of individual freedom and, ultimately, undermining the very foundations of democratic society. There is no interest more important than this.

FYI (with reference to #Durov case and beyond):
In France, the use and provision of #cryptographic tools and services are indeed subject to regulation. The relevant legal framework is primarily governed by the “Code de la défense” and the “Code monétaire et financier”.
Under French law, certain cryptographic tools are classified as "dual-use" items, meaning they have both civilian and military applications. This classification stems from historical concerns over national security and the use of strong encryption in military communications.
The importation, exportation, and provision of cryptographic services in France often require prior authorization from the French authorities. Specifically, the use of cryptography for securing communications and data may require either a declaration or an authorization depending on the strength and purpose of the encryption. This is governed by the “Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information” (ANSSI), the French National Cybersecurity Agency.
The use of cryptographic systems is regulated under the 1996 decree (modified in 2007) which distinguishes between cryptographic tools that require a simple declaration and those that require prior authorization. For instance:
- #declaration: required for cryptographic tools with basic security measures, such as SSL/TLS for secure website communications;
- #authorization: required for more advanced or military-grade cryptographic tools, where the encryption strength and the potential impact on national security are higher.
French regulations on cryptography are linked to the broader European Union framework on dual-use goods, which includes cryptographic technologies. Specifically, the European Dual-Use Regulation (2021/821), which is a part of the EU’s export control regime, governs the trade of dual-use items, including encryption tools, that can be used for both civilian and military purposes.
#ChatControl is back on the agenda of EU governments. The Hungarian Presidency will gather 'guidance for further work' on the text on September 4th. Governments will discuss 'progress' on October 10th/11th, with endorsement expected on December 12th/13th.
This highlights why a protocol like #Nostr is crucial. It’s also a reason to appreciate and support the work of people like
@JeffG .

The power struggle between central governments and technological oligarchies is becoming increasingly apparent. Against the latter, governments still maintain a monopoly on legislation. When this proves insufficient (there was no legal basis to order Apple or Google to ban VPN downloads), it ultimately results in the intimidation of citizens.
For years, I've dreamed of a connected system that gives power back to creators, moves away from centralized control, and uses Bitcoin for transactions. Watching it become reality is as exciting as when I first read Antonopoulos's work. 🧡
There are Bitcoiners who don’t have a NOSTR profile.
Psychopaths.

Just back from Riga with a new mission: using and spreading NOSTR. ‘Cause we can't predict a centralized system's exact path, but we can move away from it through decentralization.
