No matter who's in power and no matter what the crisis is, the answer is always to restrict your freedoms. "Smith-Mundt placed restrictions on what the US government is allowed to do with regard to propaganda, while the proposed “Charlie Kirk Act” would give the US government sweeping new powers to decide what does and does not constitute propaganda and untruth and administer penalties accordingly. One limits the US government’s ability to manipulate public information, while the other explicitly expands it."

Hey you guys they found “I am trans” written on the bullets and “I am Antifa” was also written on the bullets and also “Nothing can stop us radical leftists but a huge Palantir surveillance network” and also “Killer police robots and murder drones would thwart our plans.” Come on. The claim fizzled almost as soon as it surfaced, with one law enforcement official telling The New York Times that “the report had not been verified by A.T.F. analysts, did not match other summaries of the evidence and might turn out to have been misread or misinterpreted.”

The reactions of various journalists I follow to the murder of Charlie Kirk basically fall into two groups. Some point out the holes in the story and how the outrage it generates will be abused for more contol. Some fuel the outrage. I am resisting the urge to unfollow the latter, people are allowed wrong opinions if they also deliver valuable ones.

If you run Dovecot (IMAP server) on Debian, upgrading from Bookworm to Trixie is unusually painful. They changed a ton of config options from version 2.3 to 2.4

Upgraded all my self-hosted services today, was much less painful than I thought. When you ask AI for the config update, make sure you ask it to disable all HTTP versions below 2, not just 1.1. Otherwise it might happily leave 1.0 running. View quoted note →
