Today was weaning day. Called the cows up to the corral, sorted off the calves, dewormed, banded the bulls. A couple of the heifers will stay on the farm for breeding. About 5 of the steers will be kept for butchering, and the rest will go to the sale barn in about 4 weeks to make the farm some fiat for the year. #farmstr #beef #proofofwork #grownostr

This was an interesting soil profile. It's in a yard on an upland summit. The topsoil (Ap horizon) was hauled in at some point in the past. Below that was a layer of creek gravel probably spread for an old parking area. The original topsoil is below that, which makes it a buried A horizon (Ab). Next is a silty, light colored layer (E horizon), which indicates this area was forested in the past. Underneath is silty clay. These layers were all deposited by wind. At the bottom of the pit, is a layer of sandy clay that was formed from sanstone. #grownostr #soil #soilmorphology #proofofwork
