This was an interesting soil profile. image It's in a yard on an upland summit. The topsoil (Ap horizon) was hauled in at some point in the past. Below that was a layer of creek gravel probably spread for an old parking area. The original topsoil is below that, which makes it a buried A horizon (Ab). Next is a silty, light colored layer (E horizon), which indicates this area was forested in the past. Underneath is silty clay. These layers were all deposited by wind. At the bottom of the pit, is a layer of sandy clay that was formed from sanstone. image #grownostr #soil #soilmorphology #proofofwork

Today, we're hauling some scrap metal from behind this abandoned farm house. image Car is still parked in the garage. image The inside is pretty rough. Some of these old houses have potential to clean out and fix up, but this one looks to be beyond repair. #ruralruins #grownostr #getoutside

Hauling some mulch. image Here's my unsolicited advice for today: Careers are no longer necessary. Develop some skills. Maybe acquire some equipment. Start hustling. Stack sats. #proofofwork #grownostr

Storm rolled through and the power went out. Turns out it was a big oak tree on the north end of our property that fell and took out a power pole. image So instead of cooking supper in the kitchen, I cooked supper on the Coleman propane stove. Linemen are dealing with many downed lines tonight, and we are the last house on our service line so, I expect, lowest priority. Generator is on standby if I need to run freezers for a while tomorrow. Phones are charging via power banks. My solar Meshtastic node weathered the storm and is still functioning. Plenty of water, gasoline, and diesel fuel on hand. Being prepared is quite nice. #grownostr #preparedness

I made a rare trip into Springfield this week, had some spare time between errands, and stopped by Just for Him for some pipe tobacco. image Got 2 ounces of Longbottom Leaf to refill the jar I keep on hand. I also got a tin of Capstan blue to try, but I don't plan on smoking it any time soon. It will stay sealed and age several months before I pop the tin and try it. Like Bitcoin, cellaring tobacco is a low time preference hobby. #pipestr #grownostr

My latest project: leather haversack image I have found that to get the gear you really want, you often have to make it yourself. Oil tanned leather, saddle stitched by hand, hand peened solid brass rivets, eyelets and paracord for external attachment of knife and mesh radio image This will now be my daily carry bag. image #grownostr #edc #proofofwork #knifestr #makeyourownshit
