My proof of work for today. Small covered bridge over the pond outflow. image The frame is some old scaffolding the previous owner left on my property. My original plan was to cut it off flush and just have a walkway, but the idea for a covered bridge popped into my head. All reclaimed scrap lumber and metal. Just need one more piece sheet metal to finish it up. #grownostr #homesteading #getoutside

Between guiding the Fellowship and battling to the death a balrog of Morgoth, Gandalf the Grey took the time to get his Bitcoin off the exchange. What's your excuse? image #bitcoin #zapathon #plebchain
At the close of a productive week, I sit at the water's edge and load my pipe with a bowl of Cornell and Diehl's Innsmouth. image I set flame to the tobacco and as the smoke rises, I contemplate the secrets that lie beneath the surface of the water. What hidden horrors lurk in those fathomless depths where light of sun seldom goes and song of bird never reaches. What terrible truths are hidden below the placid water that if ever discovered by mortal minds would shatter them into utter madness. What nameless creatures might be looking furtively back up at us who walk upon the earth and breathe the open air with contempt and malice, ever awaiting the day when they rise above the surface to bring ruin and destruction to all those who dwell upon the land. The smoke continues to rise and twists and swirls through the branches of an ancient tree above my head, branches that are ever reaching and groping towards the untouchable sky. Likewise, the roots of the old tree continually burrow and delve into the depths of the earth seeking sustenance from the soil, consuming the infernal nutrients left behind by centuries of decay and death under the ground using them to fuel it's unhurried yet unceasing expansion. image As the shadows of night close about me, I can see, above the branches of the ancient tree and in the reflection of the placid water, the glint of the emerging stars. They gaze down at me across infinite abyyses of space and time with total and utter indifference, an indifference more powerful than the malice of the nameless things beneath the water, an indifference more ancient than the unceasing growth of the old tree. The fire of their light will never be quenched by the groping of the tree or the rising of the nameless creatures, nor will their movements ever be checked by the advancement of mankind's conceited civilizations. The stars continue in their indifference, and their light reveals our insignificance. I sit, and the countless sources of my dread surround me. And yet I am comforted, for our doom, though it balances upon the edge of a knife or hangs from a spider's tenouos thread, has not fallen upon us yet. And I have yet this fleeting moment to sit and smoke, and it is enough. #grownostr #pipeandtobacco #hplovecraft
I found this calf in the wrong pasture. image Not sure if she got left behind when I moved the cows a couple days ago or if she got scared in the storm last night and ran back to this side seeking shelter. Either way, she needed to be put back in with the herd. I tried to ease her through the gate, but she wouldn't go, so on to plan B. I chased her a couple laps around the field with the truck to wear her down, and on foot, ran her into a corner where I could tackle her, tied three feet with my belt, and tossed her in the truckbed. With both of us a little winded, I drove her back over to the cows and she was reunited with mama. image #grownostr #beef #proofofwork #rotationalgrazing #regenerativeranching #iaintacowboybuticanrodeoifihaveto

Well, it seems the chicks have outgrown their brooder box. They need to be moved into the big chicken house this week. image To all the chicken experts, what is your procedure for introducing pullets to the hen flock? #grownostr #chickens #homesteading #foodsovereignty

Public Service Announcement for all the homesteaders. Get to know your local scrap yard. It's a great place to find materials for all your projects. Also, it's a good place to come up with some additional income. Always keep an eye out for scrap metal. Have a designated place on your homestead to collect and sort it, and when you have enough gathered up, take it to the scrap yard, exchange it for cash. If you own some rural land, there's likely an old dump site somewhere. Clean it up, sort the metal, and generate some cash. If the dump area is on your neighbor's property, go talk to them, they'll probably let you scrap it for them. You get the money for the metal, they get their property cleaned up, win win. I made at least $2000 last year just clearing junk out of some old barns and cleaning up scrap metal around the farm. #grownostr #homesteading #paralleleconomy #hustle

Just a random Southern Missouri creek. Banks collapsing, the US Dollar in decline, the world getting more ridiculous, woke, and nonsensical, and this creek flows on unperturbed along its stony course. Old, gnarled oak and sycamore trees continue to cast their shade on the water as it gradually delves into the bedrock of the bluff that marks the stream's edge seeking its path ever downwards. Actions of the government, fluctuations of the economy, or machinations of the elite have little effect on the slow steady flow of this random Southern Missouri creek. Build your life in a place like this creek. image #grownostr #getoutside #nature
