I logged into LinkedIn just to check in, and saw a bunch of posts from people taking sabbaticals A lot of them shared similar goals for their time off.. things like resting, getting healthier, spending time in nature, reading, finding hobbies, just living and being more present It’s wild to me that in North America these basic human needs aren’t part of the norm while working, they only seem possible when people fully step away from work The work/life culture in the West can be so bleak and lifeless god damn #gm #nostr #work #life #northamerica

Last year I hit a bit of a crossroads - I wasn’t feeling fulfilled in my job, I was doing 60 hour weeks on work that didn’t line with my values, and I was living far from everyone I cared about One thing that really helped me find clarity was watching YouTube videos from older folks sharing life lessons and reflections they have in their later years Honestly, super powerful stuff, especially if you’re in your 20s. You start to notice the same themes coming up again and again, and there’s a lot to learn from that Definitely gave me the clarity I needed at the time to make certain decisions. It’s been 7 months since I stepped back from my role at a small consulting firm, and I’ve been reflecting One of the roles I valued most was working as an Agile Coach For 13 months, I worked with two global IT teams - helping them set direction and organize themselves, communicate better, and improve how they worked together What I appreciated most was how the role brought a human touch to a high pressure corporate environment I really tried to create space for honesty, reflection, and enjoyment within a group or introverted IT professionals working remotely.
