Our final post in this week's security series is a big one: why screens aren't all they're cracked up to be, why we think they keep people from self-custody, & how Bitkey can help without a screen on the hardware. Take a read, let us know what you think: bitkey.build/screens-are-not… (https://bitkey.build/screens-are-not-a-panacea/)

**RT @ltgrossman:**
As we build a self-custody bitcoin wallet, we want to help people move easily between fiat & bitcoin. We believe the best way to do this is to work w/ global partners who have already built on/off ramps. Read more on our thinking here: wallet.build/helping-custome… cc @Noaf_BTC

3/ We hope these posts have helped to provide insight into our engineering process and decision making logic in selecting the processor for the hardware component of our wallet and strive to make robust, secure, and open source hardware. What do you think of our chip decision?

2/ We're excited to have landed on a secure MCU component from vendor Silicon Labs as the leading candidate for our hardware. It has an impressive set of features & gets us to our performance, security, & transparency goals while fitting well into our electrical & firmware design

**Response to @max_guise:**
1/ Security & transparency are our most important criteria in choosing our electrical architecture and main chip. In the post, we explain how each processor type achieves these qualities & how our component selection is the right balance of the criteria we listed in our last post

13/ We’re looking for any input about making simple, accessible, self-custodial recovery experiences. What’s missing, or unnecessary today? What makes you nervous, and what makes you feel confident and well protected? Let us know at wallet@block.xyz, or here on Twitter.

**Response to @max_guise:**
12/ Acting as an emergency contact could be as simple as sharing a phone number and using it enter a code the owner shares when reaching out to you for help. How would you design an experience so that less technical users understood its purpose, and their role in protecting you?

**Response to @max_guise:**
11/ Relying on a circle of people you trust can be a powerful fallback for safer self-custody. A way to allow others to help get you back in control, without having access to the money directly. How would you feel about relying on people close to you to help protect your assets?

**Response to @max_guise:**
10/ We think we’ll need a reliable way to communicate with customers about recovery events, for safety and ease. What are the right channels (email, SMS, others) for a global audience? How strict should Wallet be in requiring them, to balance privacy vs. safety? Optional ok?

**Response to @max_guise:**
9/ We think the above tools can be quick to set up, easy to learn to use, and create minimal anxiety to safely maintain. We’re still exploring details on implementing them, and want to hear from the community about what makes sense and what can be better.

**Response to @max_guise:**
8/ What about if you lose \*both\* your App AND Hardware? Call on the trusted friends and family you (optionally) set as emergency contacts to help affirm you’re you, and approve enabling your App and its key on a new device with Social Recovery, before rotating in new Hardware.
