The way billionaires pay or avoid taxes is really different from people who work for a living or even the “normal” wealthy millionaires. @ProPublica has a great investigative piece based on a major leak of billionaires tax returns from the IRS.

@Meredith Whittaker from Signal has a good essay / editorial about how we need to build an open source funded alternative to Big Tech.

A friend asked about secure, encrypted, and private alternatives to google docs… the only thing i could think of was cryptpad which we both felt was so slow and clunky that most people would probably revert back to using google docs…
I thought since folks here on Nostr care about such things, maybe something new has come up in the last few years which is better than cryptpad…
Wow. Declaring martial law and sending the military in to storm parliament doesn’t seem like a very democratic way to solve governance issues.

Is there anywhere written up what’s involved in creating a feed display of content outputted from a DVM? I’m lazy and 2 minutes of googling didn’t show me. ;-D
Anybody but Satlantis done an organizational directory / market db / poi db in Nostr?

I like the idea of revokable subkeys. You could use a shared cloud custodial login service for the subkey but keep the root offline or backed up. That way you could get easy login without giving up control.
Potentially you could inscribe controls over what a subkey could or couldn’t do. Which would be interesting.

And now @bryan newbold has written a good response to @Christine Lemmer-Webber’s essay. Also worth reading if you’re interested social media protocols and advocating for why Nostr solves some of the problems that have come up with in ActivityPub and ATprotocol.

If Trump really does impose broad and high tariffs then it’ll cause domestic inflation. What will it due the USD visa vi other currencies? Will it cause inflation elsewhere?
Is satlantis open source? I’m curious how they do the username/password to nsec bunker and if it would be possible to adapt to other communities not just bitcoin digital nomads. There’s some Maori in Aotearoa New Zealand who are interested in having something similar but for Maori orgs and places here.
Is there a library / server setup fro username / password access to nsecbunkers like the way satlantis does it?

“Both political parties have worked together to push [social media] platforms to censor political speech. This is why meta now down ranks all posts from journalists and activists. And TikTok is similar where it’s suppressed political content.
People in power, whether they’re democrats or republicans seem to be able to agree on is that they want less online activism, and less speech. We’ve seen that throughout the Trump and Biden administrations alike, and I do think it’s concerning. When we look at the social media landscape, these apps that were originally ushered in things like the Arab Spring. People used to talk about their liberatory nature, now you can’t even say the word feminism on threads without getting down ranked. “ @Taylor Lorenz
