When my kids were little they all hit an age where they questioned everything I asked them. Take out the trash; why? Clean your room; why? I really appreciated my kids doing this because I do it to my boss and really anyone claiming they have authority over my decisions. Do not obey rules that cannot be supported by logic and reason. If you as the parent(or authority figure) cannot articulate your reason via simple rhetoric that the recipient can understand, that's no fault of the receiver.
