In Odessa, a large number of dead dolphins have been found since February 24, and the possible cause of their deaths is believed to be the use of hydrolocators by Russian ships. This information was reported by the press service of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office. "It has been established that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia, a large number of dead marine mammals have been found on the beaches of Odessa. The probable cause of their mass deaths is the use of hydrolocators (sonars) by the aggressor country's submarines and surface ships, which create powerful sounds that negatively affect the health of the animals," the statement said. At the initiative of the prosecutor's office, examinations and dissections of cetaceans - sea pigs and common dolphins (porpoises) found dead on the coast have been carried out. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the mass destruction of wildlife objects (dolphins of the Azov, Afalin, and other species) as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine (Article 441 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code - ecocide). It is worth noting that, according to scientists, tens of thousands of dolphins have already perished in the Black Sea, in the territories of several countries, due to Russia's military aggression.
