Yesterday, The CLARITY Act passed through the House Financial Services and Agriculture Committees. The language in the bill that protects noncustodial tools and services and their developers was preserved in the process - a big win for transactional privacy.
“Privacy in and of itself is not illegal. Americans have a right to it in their financial transactions. And so there’s totally legitimate uses of privacy-preserving technologies.” -Rep. Bryan Steil
🚨 NEW: Here’s an important segment from The Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (ANS) for the CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), which was posted this evening. “…a non-controlling blockchain developer or provider of a blockchain service shall not be treated as a money transmitter or as engaged in ‘money transmitting’…” image
🚨 NEW: The Blockchain Association and The DeFi Education Fund have published a joint amicus brief in support of the Samourai Wallet defendants’ motion to dismiss the charges. "Today's blockchain developers face legal consequences for how users misuse their open-source noncustodial tools — preventing prosecutorial overreach is critical for Americans in the digital economy." -Rep. Tom Emmer in hearing on The CLARITY Act
