Eitan was one of the four officers killed today in the explosion of a Hummer jeep south of Rafah by an IED, among them a platoon commander.
A condolence statement was issued and published by the Settlements Council in the West Bank. From this statement, we can better understand how they take pride in such figures and how their community thinks and feels.
The statement says:
“Eitan grew up in a family of values and Zionism, a son of the Torah, a strong believer in the idea of settlement in the Promised Land, a frontline fighter, devoted, and naturally he and his wife chose to build their home in the settlement of Har Bracha. At their wedding, they set up a special memorial for the fallen and their friends. Our hearts are broken for his youth, and for the family that was meant to flourish here in Samaria (the West Bank) but now will not. His beloved Atara, daughter of a well-established family in Har Bracha, who grew up here, brought him here to Samaria (the West Bank), and now we must accompany him on his final journey.”
A “Zionist, son of the Torah, believer in the idea of settlement in the Promised Land ‘from the Nile to the Euphrates,’ a fighter, living in an illegal settlement in the West Bank, his family were the ones who brought him into settlement there.”
And yet when a Palestinian is religious, a believer in liberation, a resistor, and wants to return to his homeland ,he is labeled a “terrorist”?!
