Since we can’t add annotations to YouTube videos anymore, I added a more resilient method of using overrides to theme Flatpak apps in a pinned comment under yesterday’s video (using the gtk3 and gtk4 config folders instead of the .themes and the GTK_THEME variable).
Since there are a bunch of misconceptions around Flatpak, I decided to make a guide to dispel these, and explain how to do a few things, like theming all applications, using the command line interface to manage them, installing them from your web browser, and more: #flatpak #linux #opensource
Holly crap, I don’t know who I have to thank for the very, very generous donation on Liberapay (they’re all anonymous), but that’s… amazing! If this person is on Mastodon and they’re reading this: you are amazing! Thank you so much!
Time for this week's #Linux and #OpenSource News video! In this one, we have #ChromeOS finally graduating to a "real" Linux distro status, we have #Mint giving details about the next release, and discussing their choice of #Ubuntu as a base, and we have #GNOME planning some changes to the Activities button (that I sort of like, but it's not perfect). Let's take a look!
One GNOME extension I forgot to add to the list of stuff I now use is “Rounded Window corners”. It rounds every bottom corner of every window, so even older GTK3 apps, and non GNOME apps look a bit more in line with libadwaita apps. Also, I added the GNOME thunderbird theme, and it makes a huge difference in how Thunderbird integrates visually with the rest of the desktop. Of course, it might break with every update, so we’ll see.
I’ve been playing around with Remote Desktop on various computers, and I thought a quick little how-to could be useful, so I made a video about it. I cover remoting into a Linux PC, and Windows & macOS as well, plus one way to remote into a VM, and an extra solution for #Linux users to get better results than basic VNC. Maybe it will be helpful:
If you’re using social networks to find news about the things you’re interested in (yes, that includes Mastodon), it’s time to stop and use something that was actually made for that: RSS! So I made a quick video about this old tech, and how it’s still the absolute best way of curating what you read, watch, receive, or listen to:
