He’s a practitioner of mentalism, a subset of magic grounded in a performer’s ability to create the illusion of mind-reading and, on occasion, mind control. Often, he appears to know things no stranger should know. Mentalism like Pearlman’s relies on minimal props, and the lack of stage production can lend a performance credibility. Unlike an illusionist who “saws” an assistant in half, Pearlman may utilize only a few visible tools: a pen, some paper, maybe a white board.
