LN node runner-ish
Careful out there today!
Starting to get interested in increasing the DCA amount again for first time in a while. Would love to stack some $30k(s) corn for the next few months and really appreciate a gift to the $20k(s)!

30 weeks I've been doing this now, crazy. The big one this week is something we haven't seen all year, hash rate decrease (quite significant, over 10%). I'll definitely keep monitoring this one in the next couple reports. You could say we were well overdue to take some power off the network based on the crazy run we've seen - In the 30 weeks I've been doing this we started at 362 and got as high as 538 EH/s - Almost a 50% increase. In any event, it is a change in trend so now we monitor. Wonder what caused over 10% to come off the network?
Price continues to decline, dropping under $40k after the weekly close yesterday. It would be nice to consolidate for a few months.
I'm really going to try and move a little slower, drink more tea at night vs. alcohol and most importantly, really focus on the time I get to spend w/ my daughter this week for the shear fact that she's at a really fun age and I know it will continue to fly by. I hope everyone can find some small goals and knock them out this week. Cheers.

A little late this week (again) but we're still here (again). Wild (or not, depending on your time preference) past week from a price standpoint, all the hype for $50k and that OG Bitcoiners were getting calls to sell their BTC because the custodians couldn't buy enough to fill the demand was kind of funny. Surprise, hello $40k, and quickly! We're hovering at a pretty crucial area $42k-$44k and I don't have strong conviction on if we breakdown or not. So I will continue to DCA.
FWIW - I'm happy the ETF narrative is done but I really don't like where I feel this is going. Centralized custody of BTC and a continued narrative that the only use case is for criminals or money laundering will only get bigger and bigger over the next year, in my humble opinion. I hold my stack in self-custody but it sure feels that outlawing self-custody in the US is the path we're headed down, it really would be the only attempt to 'stop' this thing if I was a politician concerned w/ losing my ability to control the monetary policy. I DO believe we will prevail in numbers but it's a scary thought, the path of getting there. /End rant/
Back to the report, we still see declines (quite large) in all address counts. I don't really understand why. Hashrate continues to rip! Oh, and I'm earning some fees again with some routing activity. Very volatile stat but fun to watch regardless.
I hope everyone can find some balance in their day/week. We have about 2.5 / 3 feet of snow and I was able to take my dog out today to admire the beauty of snow-covered trees. Cheers.

“Bitcoin itself, we did not approve, we do not endorse.”
Slimy.
Buying a #Bitcoin ETF is like buying fire insurance on a house, and then leaving the contract inside. When the house burns, so goes the contract.
I love this analogy. Thank you View quoted note →

“I’m a believer in cryptocurrency as an asset class, not a currency.”
Of course you are Larry. Along with everyone else promoting this stupid ETF. “But it will increase adoption by so much!” Look I’m not saying more people won’t be talking about bitcoin now but it sure feels this is all part of the plan, the only plan the government has at this point in time.
First is ETF approval and then self-custody is banned because of funding terrorism or whatever made up reason. “Don’t worry though, here you can convert your self custody bitcoin into our ETF which is the same thing but better because you don’t have to worry about losing your funds in a boating accident!” Didn’t we see that playbook with Gold in 1933 and 1971? How did that work out for people holding the IOUs for the gold they used to own?
I don’t want to sound like a doomer but I really don’t like where all this shit is going. I don’t want to be forced between holding self custody bitcoin or being considered a criminal. Bitcoin is the greatest tool this world has ever seen and this sure feels like a giant Trojan horse but we’ll make it through. It probably won’t be pretty but we’ll make it because we have to.
That’s my rant for now on this stupid ETF bull shit.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink Backs Ether ETF

Just had my brother in law (very successful financial advisor at Fidelity) text me “thoughts on ETF DCA vs BTC directly” to which I replied asking if he was trolling me. “Not at all, Roth cash is going into it”
I’ve been racking my brain for a minute now - what is the best analogy here in simpleton terms? I mean custody vs self custody is kinda boring to people that don’t get it but there has to be a simple example that shows how dumb the question is without realizing it?

A little late this week but we're still here. Not a lot to note as everyone and their mother is focused on one thing only this week, I try to avoid all the hype and drama around what will be just another stepping stone in Bitcoin's long-term adoption curve.
One thing to note is addresses actually all ticked down for the first time in quite a while, specifically, addresses over 1 BTC had their largest decline since I've been doing this the past 28 weeks. Interesting, let's see what happens next couple weeks here.
I hope everyone can find some balance in their day/week. Today is the last day of the #RunningBitcoinChallenge - I will be finishing out my half marathon over the past week as soon as I post this. Plenty of beautiful snow-covered trees to admire, I'm grateful to be here.

GM. UTXO question for #asknostr - I always went by the old adage when withdrawing from my DCA account to cold storage that I should always use a fresh address.
In an increasing fee environment and consolidating UTXOs is more important, is there a reason I would not want to use a previous address that has a balance in it already, if both sats are KYC anyway?
GM.
