It seems to me that few people talk about Valve's impressive behavior.
When people say that "Gabe Newell does nothing and still wins", that’s not true.
Valve is a unique company that isn't made up of psychopathic, greedy bastards eager to squeeze every last 0.01 USD out of you.
I've never been a fanboy of any brand, because blind fanaticism has a negative impact on the market.
But what Valve does for free and open-source software + the fact that they make money ethically from hardware = respect.
Just one example — the Steam Deck. A fantastic device. Not locked down. You can do whatever you want with it, customize it, connect any controllers, and so on. And people have appreciated that.
Same goes for the Steam Controller.
Valve could have done what Apple or any other greedy company does to the point of psychopathy: glue the joystick shut, use the most inconvenient screws possible, solder the battery in place, and do 100500 other things to prevent you from maintaining your joystick, forcing you to always buy a new one and have it serviced only by the manufacturer, who would sell you a proprietary screwdriver for $199.90.
But they didn't do that.
I went to check on /r/MeshCore to see if it was okay to mention Meshtastic there, and found this:
This attitude on Meshtastic’s part personally discourages me from using this protocol.
In other words, instead of healthy competition through protocol improvements, the community of moderators has chosen the path of censorship, so on principle I don’t want to use it.
I need to dig deeper into this war to understand why Meshtastic is so afraid of MeshCore.
