Geometry provides the measured framing structure than then stand in juxtaposition to and finds balance with the organic and emergent mystery process of maze making. Precise geometric shapes require measurement (or extensive practice), and careful, preplanned approach. It is necessarily methodical and premeditated. It is a Left Brain process. Conversely, the maze itself, both making and solving, is an unknowable, wandering path. It is felt, rather than planed. Emergent rather than premeditated. Shifting and twisting and changing as it pulls new inspiration for the aether and transmutes into the medium via the hard of the artist. The only rule that guides the maze is that is must be solvable. This is necessary an emotional and ethereal, a Right Brain process. Thematically, 864476 | S A C R I F I C E, conveys a message of money and the pursuit of truth as drivers of individual and collective sacrifice. Patterning in emerald green evokes comparison to the design of the US dollar or a Mesoamerican chalchihuitl (jade / Jadeite) relief. The flowings of red are symbolic of blood, the energy or life force that is literally or figuratively given in sacrificial rites. Together, one may be reminded of red temple steps at Chichen Itza or tenochtitlan; the role of blood in Christendom; the blood that drips from the US dollars in financing global war making; or the toil of the individual in pursuit of monetary wealth or spiritual transcendence. Much of the maze’s patterning speak to jungle foliage, lush and wild - the cruel, cosmically indifferent state of nature from out of which man has forged civilization, often driven by the pursuit of material wealth. The Gold, Silver, and Bronze elements are references to the primary natural metallurgic monies but within the foliage patterns these elements are positioned like fruit, berries, or biological compounds - speaking to the emergent bounty of living biological-chemical-spiritual wealth that nature brings forth without any apparent fore or afterthought to self-aware man’s condition. Finally, the maze swirls around leading to the ancient Sanskrit सत् Sat character - the unchangeable morsel of reality and truth.
