#Nostr has completely changed my relationship with the internet. Used to be all Google and Twitter and IG. Now my browser is basically a dashboard running Snort, Coralce, Habla, Shopstr, Proton, Stacker, with NoGood Radio over zapstream providing the vibes. And I know there's always more. SAT 8 831786 For this series, and perhaps ones in the future, expect no. 8 to carry a lot of uniqueness and tie into the concepts of infinity, mirroring, and balance in some way. In a series of 21 pieces, 8 = ♾️ / 21. 8 itself is reflects perfectly across the x and y axis. In US culture, it’s a number of magic and mysteries, of seeking clarity and safe passage through the unknowable (magic 8 ball) and finality (8 ball in pool). In more than a few Eastern cultures is an auspicious number of luck, health, and wealth. Unlike the other pieces, this one does not have a clearly marked starting point. One may start from the top “As Above” or at the bottom “So Below” - these words themselves a mystical tome from the Emerald Tablet (a text widely considered to be the foundation of Islamo-European alchemy) that speaks to the effects of celestial mechanics on earthly events and fractal mirroring across related macrocosm and microcosm systems (society and man, a metropolis and the individual family home within, the strange scaled sameness of the mountain and the jagged throwing stone). In the Tarot, “The Magician” who is seen with the infinity sign (8/♾️) above his head is associated with phrase “As Above, So Below.” What’s more, the appearance of The Magician signifies energy, potential, and the manifestation of one’s desires - a meaning and melding of the physical and spiritual and a conduit to convert spiritual energy into real-word action. In the piece is self these is a meeting and melding of colors and designs that can represent heaven and earth, sky and land/sea, spirit and body. The six pointed star that frames the सत् (SAT) is also a symbolic representation of “As Above, So Below.” The entire page is filled to represent wholeness and reaching for the totality of the infinite. In many ways my artistic mind has always functioned like a camera, seeking to reproduce rather creative new (this is why I also think I have a natural and untrained knack for photography). But that had always been my style - pick a subject, study it, upscale it, downscale it, replicate it. I think this is also why photorealist artists like Simon Stålenhag, Marc-André Castanger (Earthcrusher), and Yoann Merienne are my favorite contemporary (non bitcoin) artists. However, few me, if my subject disappeared so did my artistry it seemed, I always struggled to create my own freeform artwork that I would feel proud of. At some point in college, I become extremely self critical of this flaw, I let it become an artistic insecurity, and begin a slow journey away from art via simple neglect. But Inspired by the community that is #bitcoin I am compelled and energized to pick up the pen again after so many years. But this time I want to do it by embracing my artistic insecurities rather than avoiding them. I am finally ready to go with them and through them, to see where they lead and to discover how I may grow artistically. That is why these “SAT” pieces are interesting and special to me. When I draw the starting shape, I know it will be off, it will be wholly imperfect no matter what I do. Each time I make a starting shape, something in me recoils and bristles at this initially, but Im learning to let it pass. I realize that unless I want this project to be an avante-garde exercise in wasting hundreds of sheets of expensive marker paper in the act of getting nowhere, I must adapt. When a shape is “too” off I correct it with a new line, I see now that this creates blocked off spaces that I can either fill in or leave negative for artistic effect. And what’s more, I’m realizing that viewer, one who may enjoy my art, does not see these as “mistakes.” What is a challenging process to immerse in randomness and haphazard whimsy for me, may strike another’a eyes as calculated, deliberate, inspiring, or even profound. INTRODUCING “SAT” SERIES 1 Featured: SAT 1, 2, 3 This project is inspired by the Sanskrit character “sat” सत् which (from my research) has complex meanings including “that which is unchangeable,” “reality,” and “absolute truth.” My plan is that this will be a series of 21. I find the meaning and character to be very beautiful on its own - and doubly so overlaying the #bitcoin meaning of “sat.” I don’t write in Sanskrit script but I can write in Chinese hanzi and Thai script, so I find Sanskrit script to be fun also. To me, all of the many meanings of “sat” feel perfect for maze art. The process I’m using is completely freehand and fully intended to be random and imperfect. I’m not drawing in pencil underneath first, I’m not using any shape tracing aids, other than the general overall shape I have no pre-imagined plan for what the maze will look like, so it is process of discovery through creation even for me, as I cannot know what the maze will bring before I start.
