Today's theme: Past vs Future #30DaysThroughMyLense #30DaysOfProofOfWork Today I have chosen 2 sunset shots taken at different times and locations. Similar but very different. “Past” is shot outside of the Beijing airport (taken from a moving taxi). You can see the sun as a muted bright pink dot in the tree line - this is the biting beauty of Beijing’s winter haze circa 2015. China, Beijing, Airport, Taxi, The Act of Being in Transit, Being Everywhere But Also Nowhere. These were the tenets of an outwardly successful but deeply stifled, unstable, unsettled and unfulfilled (if not also unhappy) past life spent jetting back and forth across the Pacific and wandering through China as a Western management consultant. Grateful memories equal part fond, formative, and painful. Lost years, but not wasted ones. “Future” is a sunset shot from Chaing Mai, Thailand, taken in 2023, also shot from a moving vehicle. So in transit again, but this is not transit for transit’s sake - this is a sunset ride to my wife’s family home in northern Thailand. Contrasting with Past, the feeling here is warm and free. And farther on, off the highway and down the backroads, beyond the palm and coconut groves, by winding ways, in the future there waits a humble home and a lush garden in paradise. Got a new iPhone…old phone is still functional over wifi, especially as I WFH. This now presents an interesting opportunity for me to think of what I will keep OFF of the new device. I receive few meaningful personal emails. Maybe I don’t load my mail accounts on this new phone… I want to put extreme deemphasis on Twitter and Instagram, I’ve kept them off this new phone… I go open certain apps or functions on this phone and realize I’ve yet to set them up and I’d have to go to the other room to catch. In most cases, whatever it was wasn’t important effort to take that effort so I don’t. Feels good. Forces deprioritization of time wasting garbage…

Lots of “2024 psyop” doomposting for new year. Recheck the vibe guys. Lean into gratitude. Also, “predicting” that we live in crazy world that is likely to only get crazier” doesn’t make you some clear eyed prophet - it makes you someone who is overindexed to the algorithm.
