When I was in 5th grade, my class took a field trip to the Holocaust museum in DC. A central lesson of the trip was understanding the Nazi propaganda machine so as to recognize what propaganda is and not let such a thing proliferate again in the future. Even for a 5th grader, the propaganda of the 1940s was blatantly over-the-top and ridiculous in hindsight. Failure of a large portion of society to recognize propaganda today is disappointing at best and unpardonable at worse. If you think you’re immune to propaganda, you don’t understand it. You’re either aware of the programming or the programming worked.

My former co-founder was all-business. If it wasn’t translating to a P&L, it didn’t matter. His version of working out was walking his dog. He could never comprehend why I did endurance athletics. If I wasn’t going to be the best in the world at it, then why do it? I feel sad for people like him that will never understand fulfillment beyond profit or a business sale. If you are an athlete, you know what I’m talking about. The addiction that drives us is the same addiction that powers success in business. It doesn’t have to be an either or. Do an Ironman and you’ll find out real quick that many if not most participants are highly successful in their professional. pursuits. That is not a coincidence. #fitness #business

This post may trigger some people. When it comes to bitcoin, I live by a simple rule: NEVER become a forced seller. Everyone has different circumstances, and I respect that, but to those that are ‘all-in’ - especially the noobs in the space or those with nothing else to fall back on - I am here to let you know that it is in fact possible to be balls deep in bitcoin and call yourself a maxi (or whatever moniker you like) and position yourself for hard times, which are inevitable. You want to be able to survive a long winter. I mean REALLY long. No, fuck that. You want to position yourself for a prolonged war. The kind of war where tax authorities insist you declare your wallet address(es). The kind of war where the government taxes btc sales at 70%. One where you lose your job or a health crisis ensues. Think of the worst possible scenario and then imagine it going on for years. Can you survive that and never sell your bitcoin? In fact, can you survive it AND continue stacking? It’s been said before, but many people that are not developers doubt their ability to contribute to the BTC space. If you are reading this, you have a role to play. Here is a short story. Last month I was at a bar with a live band that had a tip bucket at the front of the stage. They were accepting tips in cash and through Venmo. While they were playing, I whipped up a lightning wallet on my phone. When the singer entered the crowd with the bucket asking for tips, I told her to take my phone that had a lightning QR code on the screen and tell people she was accepting bitcoin. She didn’t receive much, but now she has a wallet to accept bitcoin in the future, and a bucket that will say “WE ACCEPT BITCOIN” at all future performances. And who knows. Maybe she will tell another band to do the same. Who will tell another band. Who will tell another band. Who will… Small contributions compound.
