Doing my part to #grownostr!
Back to making ammo. I’m getting started on resizing my 1x fired brass for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Thinking back, I wish I had annealed all the brass before starting. It behaves very differently and better after annealing it. For bolt guns I full length size with an S-Type die. I’m shooting for 0.004” headspace and using the Redding competition shell holders. They are staged in 0.002” increments and really speed up both finding the right headspace and setting up the press for consistent headspace between batches. You can do this without but competition shell holders are way faster and I’m glad I spent the money on them. Next step is trimming. #brass #brassprep #fulllengthsizing #creedmoor #hunting #handloading #reloading #loaddevelopment #loaddev #grownostr #plebchain
GM Nostr! And happy Friday! Here is a #protip to take into the weekend. #grownostr #plebchain image
Has Damus stopped allowing posting videos? I used to be able but now none work, whether they are found videos or ones I shot on my phone, long or short. #asknostr #damus #plebchain #grownostr
Ok! I did the windage study and got very similar results. I’m beginning to understand the utility of bullet drop, range-based scope dials. Again, TLDR: not much difference. The setup is for a 400 yard shot with a 5 mph wind from 9 o’clock (from my left). R is my reference shot at 300 ft elevation @ 59* F in no wind. It is inside a 4” circle which is the best I could hope to shoot in perfect conditions. All the other shots are at that same point of aim (POA) so we can see what the wind and other variables do to point of impact (POI). First pic is the target and after it a chart for the variables in each shot. This is for a 6.5 Creedmoor shooting 143 gr Hornady ELD-X bullets. What the variables simulate: A. These are roughly the conditions I will develop the load in. B. This is roughly my hunting altitude but at the same temperature I worked up the load in. It may be unseasonably warm for the hunt. C. This is the altitude of the hunt and as cold as I expect it to get then. D. Is the same as C except the muzzle velocity (MV) is 100 fps slower, which I’m guessing is an extreme case should the cold temps reduce the MV. Like before, almost all this error is less than my own shooting imprecision. Even with a 20 mph crosswind (4x the difference between the 5 mph shots) I’m still at error inside my own and I hope I’m not taking a 400 yard shot at 20 mph! #ballistics #externalballistics #creedmoor #hunting #handloading #reloading #loaddevelopment #loaddev #grownostr #plebchain
And probably violated the Geneva convention in the process. #grownostr #plebchain image
I really think we can trust this guy this time. #grownostr #plebchain #democracy image
