Just pushed another NostrGram update that seriously increases performance of like/quotes/replies counting and display. I noticed when browsing #[0] and #[1]'s feeds (which get tons of engagement) that the counts took a second to load. I optimized the db and the code to scale better and now they load instantaneously. 😎

Already fixed a few bugs from the new NostrGram update, but it's generally running really smooth. I'll probably release it sooner rather than later tomorrow. I have a busy morning but unless something major shows up by tomorrow afternoon I'll push the update so everyone using NostrGram can access it. My goal is for NostrGram to be hands-down the best web client for desktop. It's mobile friendly of course, and I use it on my phone all the time, but I very much prefer the desktop (and not just because I hate typing on a phone). Plus there are already great mobile apps like Amethyst for Android and Damus for iOS. One of the things I love most about Nostr is that we're not limited to one app. You can pick the one(s) you love the most and use them as you wish. It's the free market as the free market *should* be.

Thanks to a suggestion by #[0] NostrGram now shows you the number of accounts a person is following. It's in staging but after around 24 hours of testing will be moved into production. If you want to check out the updates in staging go to: https://nostrgram.co/staging/

One of the things I love about building NostrGram is the rapid development based on user feedback. No corporate red tape, no long waits for a "code review" before the changes go live. I write code, I push it out, you tell me what you think and if there are issues, I fix stuff. Rinse and repeat. It makes development a joy.

NOSTRGRAM UPDATE (BETA) This is a big one folks! First, I completely rebuilt the database so it has all the data from *all* known relays (but still no spam). * Relay Management: Go to Settings (⚙️) and you can set your custom relays now. Only the relays you configure will be written to. The Kind 3 record is posted to the relays now, so any changes you make in your relays in Settings will be reflected in other clients. * If a note author replies to their own note, that secondary note will be shown beneath the first one in the feeds. * If the note author doesn't have any replies to their own note, the most Liked reply will be shown beneath the note in the feeds (if there is one). * There's a new info icon (ℹ) next to the timestamp on the notes. Click that icon to see the JSON event structure of the note (for those of you who like to geek out on that kind of thing like I do). * Follower counts now reflect *all* the relays and their roughly 6+ million event records in the database, so don't be surprised if your follower count jumps significantly. * Major search performance improvements and general performance improvements across the board. This update was designed to let NostrGram grow with the accelerating growth of the Nostr protocol and its popularity. This next update to NostrGram will also restore full follower counts since the database now contains *all* the data from both paid and public relays. So expect your follower count to jump quite a bit in most cases.

FYI NostrGram users. The next update (hopefully today) also includes the ability to pick and choose which relays you read from and write to. Now that I'm tagging all relays each event is known to come from, that functionality will be possible.

Man I had no idea how useful having the most liked reply beneath the note was going to be. When scrolling through the feed it *really* helps, especially if somebody is asking a question or making a point and there's a counter-point to be made or some clarification to add. Also, when the author replies to their own post NostrGram is now showing the first reply to their own post beneath the post in the feed -- giving you a fuller picture of what's going on. The new update is lightning fast too (I completely over hauled the database). Friends+ loads super quick now (as does everything else!). I think you'll be very happy with this update. I'm using a database much more suited to Nostr (MongoDB), which makes the queries much faster and the database much smaller. So I'm reloading everything into the new database from Jan 1st 2022 and tagging all the events with every relay that knows about it. This will allow me to add some relay filtering features that weren't available before. NostrGram is going to get *so much better* because of this overhaul.

If anyone is having trouble logging into NostrGram with an extension like Alby or Nos2x and has time to DM back and forth, send me a DM and I'll try to figure out the issue. Apparently it's affecting a few people.
